The banning masquerade of mobile games in India continues as the Government recently blocked the Dead by Daylight mobile from the storefronts including Google Play Store and App Store. The actual reasons behind the ban are still unclear, but the developers stated that they removed the game after receiving an interim order from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
NetEase Games is in charge of delivering the game’s mobile edition to Southeast Asia (SEA) after collaborating with Behaviour Interactive. On 10 March 2023, NetEase Gaming and Behaviour Interactive launched pre-registration for Dead by Daylight’s mobile edition across Southeast Asia and Japan.
Due to the game’s connection with NetEase, the game was found breaching with the terms and conditions of MeitY.

Dead by Daylight Mobile Removed from Storefronts in India upon MeitY’s Order
The developers have taken to Twitter to announce the removal of this multiplayer horror and action game after a week of its major update. On 23 March 2023, the developers announced that the game would be deleted from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

They wrote, “We are committed to providing a unique mobile horror experience to our global audience while also complying with regional regulations.” The firm confirmed that it had received an interim order from India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The company added, ”To stay in line with the interim order from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in India, we will be removing Dead by Daylight Mobile from the Storefronts. Once it is removed, players in India will no longer be able to access and play Dead by Daylight Mobile.”
Moreover, the creators expressed gratitude for the support and stated that they will offer further updates on the game’s situation in India as soon as possible.
As of now, Dead by Daylight is not available to download from Google Play Store or App Store. Those who have the game installed already might be able to play. However, the game would not receive any updates officially.
On Reddit, one user wrote, “Dbd m [Dead by Daylight Mobile] just got banned in India. Kudos to NetEase.” Adding further context to this post, the original poster said, “All NetEase games are banned here.”
MeitY has taken a lot of action against Chinese apps since the global pandemic in 2020. Since then, several applications have been banned from the App Store and Google Play Store due to their Chinese association. People’s data concerns were the driving factor behind such a broad prohibition.
It all started with PUBG Mobile, then followed by Free Fire and Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and now, it is Dead by Daylight. While the government’s reasons are unclear, the Chinese org, NetEase might be the major factor behind the Dead by Daylight Mobile ban.
The Indian government has yet to publish an official comment on the ban, and Behaviour Interactive has announced no plans to bring the game back to India.
