Home cleaning has become a cinch with the plethora of devices that have been innovated in the recent years. And the Dyson V12 Detect Slim Vacuum Cleaner is the newest in the line of premium vacuum cleaning devices from the Singaporean Company.
Vacuum Cleaners are a boon for households and Dyson has made it into an art form with the high end vacuum cleaner lineup. The Dyson V12 Detect Slim comes with the latest and greatest in terms of the cleaning technology from the company. The device launched in India back in February and is priced at Rs 58,900 making it the costliest vacuum cleaner from the company in India at the moment. Let’s check out if it is worth the pricing.
Dyson V12 Detect Slim: Design
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim is a step ahead of its predecessor when it comes to design and weight. The Dyson V11 Absolute Pro device was bulkier than the present generation which makes for cumbersome usage for a wireless vacuum cleaner.
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim is lightweight and has a sleeker design with just 1.5kg weight without any of the attachments. The grip along with the weight makes it considerably more ergonomic to hold and use.
The one change from the last generation is the inclusion of the power button on top of the top of the main unit. This makes it quite easier to hold the unit with one hand while using it. The power button on the new Dyson V12 Detect Slim keeps the machine on unlike the trigger that was there on the previous models which is quite convenient.
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim comes with an LCD display on the back of the device which shows which mode is currently in use, the battery power levels, as well as information about the kind of dirt that has been collected. The modes which include Eco, Auto/Medium, and Boost can be changed with a button just below the display.
The dirt collection bin on the Dyson V12 Detect Slim is slightly smaller than the previous generation which helps keeping the device lighter. And cleaning out the collected dirt is as easy as pulling on the red handle and forcing the dirt out onto your garbage can. There is an indicator line on the dust collection bin which lets you know when it’s full up. Apart from that the auto dust cleaning is not the most efficient and you might have to use your hands or a cloth to clean out the inside yourself.
The filter at the back of the main unit is now cleanable which means it need not been changed ever so often. This filter has the job of stopping the really small particles from escaping with the exhaust air. The battery on the bottom of the main unit is detachable and can be swapped out when it runs out.
The wall mount which also has the provision to fix in the charging unit makes things rather convenient to store the device without having it lying around.
Fittings
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim comes with a wand and seven different cleaner heads in the box. The wand is a hollow pipe that extends the reach of the user. The different heads include Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head, Direct Drive Cleaner Head, Hair screw tool, Mini soft dusting brush, Combination tool, Low-reach adapter and a Stubborn dirt brush. Besides this there is also the Docking station which can be mounted on the wall along with the battery charger.
The Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head and the Hair screw tool are new additions to the Dyson V12 Detect Slim in India. The highlight of this version is the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head which comes with a soft brush and a laser in the front that actually shows the dust you are collecting. Gone are the days when you can argue with your wife that the floor is actually clean and does not need to be cleaned. You point the laser at the floor and voila, there’s dust everywhere. This laser can be turned off or on as well.
The Hair Screw Tool is also magic and makes sure that long hairs being collected don’t wrap around the internal bar of the dirt container. This ensures that the hair are balled up before being sucked in.
The other heads provide a plethora of options to the users to clean places like corners, sofas, behind furniture and even grooves. The motorized heads are powered directly by the main unit which means the battery will drain quicker when using these.
The heads that are not motorized have been designed by Dyson so they are backward compatible with the previous generation of vacuum cleaners from the company.
Performance and Battery Life
The one thing to prioritize when looking for a new vacuum cleaner and the Dyson V12 Detect Slim being a premium product simply excels in this department. It comes with a Hyperdymium motor and has 11 ‘Root Cyclone’ chambers that produce 150 air watts of suction power. This is significantly higher than the competition out there.
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim comes with three different power modes that include – Eco, Auto or Med, and Boost. The Eco Mode is the least powerful of the three and still does a great job at taking care of plain surfaces and some soft surfaces.
Auto or Med is the one you want to use since it optimizes the use of the battery on the device. This mode essentially is an all rounder and can take care of all the needs. This will do a great job at taking care of soft surfaces like carpets as well as curtains.
The Boost mode is a beast and gobbles up the battery, but takes care of even beds and other soft surfaces that need a deep clean. But this will essentially drain the battery in half the time.
The Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head might not provide the best visibility of dust during bright daytime hours, but it definitely does the job when the room is darker. The main unit comes with a piezo sensor which detects the different types of dirt being accumulated in the dust can. This gives a complete insight into the dust present in the home of the user.
The conical brush is something that Dyson promises is of great help for those that live with pets, but sadly I could not test that since I don’t have a canine or feline at home. But the Dyson V12 Detect Slim is a top shelf performer in whichever manner I used it.
In terms of battery life the Dyson V12 Detect Slim lasts between 30 minutes to 50 minutes in my usage. The Eco and Auto modes are the most efficient and cleaning hard surfaces use up less battery then softer ones. It takes around 3 hours to fully charge up which is less than what Dyson claims.
But it does become annoying when you are in the middle of a cleaning session and run out of charge. Hence it might be useful to invest in a spare battery. But apart from that we felt a fully charged battery was more than enough for a single cleaning session.
Should You Buy the Dyson V12 Detect Slim
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim is a pricey device, which is what most people think when they look at it with the intention of purchasing. But my use of the device has proven that the device more than makes up for that price in terms of the sheer cleaning capability of it.
It offers different cleaning heads that can tackle almost any kind of situation. Besides that the suction power on it is excellent and beyond comparison with the competition. It is lightweight enough for my wife to use for long periods of time as well. Its sheer versatility is what really sets this apart. A recommended buy.
