A four-part docuseries about famous songwriter and singer Ed Sheeran’s journey from a youngster with a stutter to a stadium-filling superstar will debut on the Disney+ Hotstar streaming service on May 3. It will include never-before-seen footage from his personal archives, new interviews with Sheeran and his family, intimate performances, and more. He will reveal some of his most personal details in the upcoming documentary Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All. A preview of Sheeran’s personal archive of soon-to-be-published interviews and performances was recently revealed by the streaming service. The Grammy winner’s upcoming album, pronounced Substract (but written with a “-“), will be released just a few days later on May 5, with the single “Eyes Closed” arriving on March 24. The Sum of It All is divided into four parts: “Love,” “Loss,” “Balance” and “Life.” The documentary will focus on how a stuttering young man gained popularity and how his number-one singles came to be. Subtract, Sheeran’s most recent (and final) album with a math theme, deals with loss and grief; in this case, the album was inspired by the passing of Sheeran’s close friend Jamal Edwards in 2022.  “Loss just took over my life. Every time something massive happens, I tend to write a song about it,” Sheeran says in the trailer.

He discusses how this trying time has affected him and his new songs in Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, which is advertised as the definitive look into Sheeran’s personal life. Speaking about the docuseries Ed Sheeran said, “I’ve always been very guarded in my personal and private life; the only documentary I’ve ever made has been one that focused on my songwriting.” “Disney approached me to make a four-part documentary, and it felt like the right time to open the door and let people in. I hope people enjoy it,” he added.
