Several Huawei and Honor smartphones are about to receive a major update. The smartphones will soon start receiving the latest EMUI 9.0. More importantly, the EMUI 9.0 is now based on Android 9 Pie.

Huawei recently launched its latest flagship Android smartphone series, the Mate 20. Apart from top-end hardware and stellar specifications, the devices in the Mate 20 Series sported EMUI 9 custom layer. Now the Chinese smartphone giant is reportedly sending out the latest EMUI OS, which will be based on the latest Android OS, to its own smartphones. Additionally, even its sub-brand, Honor, will follow Huawei’s lead.

Huawei and Honor Smartphones To Receive Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.0

Huawei’s consumer business CEO Yu Chengdong confirmed on Weibo that at least 9 smartphone models will start receiving the EMUI 9.0 upgrade starting November 10. The Huawei models that will start receiving the update are: Huawei P20, P20 Pro, Mate 10, Mate10 Pro, Mate10 Porsche Design, and Mate RS Porsche Design. The Honor smartphone models that will receive the update are Honor 10, Honor View 10, and Honor Play.

Huawei has confirmed that the update is part of the “Unlimited Upgrade”. In other words, all users of the aforementioned smartphone models can receive and apply the update. Huawei and Honor will send the update through the standard OTA (Over The Air) channels. However, in case the users are not receiving a notification for the same, they can easily make the devices search for the update by opening Upgrade Service app and then selecting  Services  > Upgrade Early Adoption.

EMUI 9.0 Features, Benefits

Huawei insists that EMUI is inspired by nature, and hence, designed with natural minimalist design, built-in natural sound effects and scene illustrations. Also, the OS is reportedly designed to be simple but also extremely easy to understand and use.

Huawei has optimized the EMUI 9.0 to boost fluency. Also, the custom layer learns by understanding user behavior in three major areas: tapping the screen, launching the application, and browsing the OS ecosystem. The update is supposed to improve the response time by 25.8 percent. Additionally, during normal operation, the EMUI 9.0 reportedly improves access by 12.9 percent.

One of the biggest aspects of the latest EMUI 9.0 update is the GPU Turbo 2.0. Huawei has been rather silent about the new developments to this interesting feature. But the GPU Turbo is a dedicated software solution to boost accessibility and playability of several Android games. Also, the GPU Turbo has had a significant impact on mid-range Honor smartphones like the Honor Play, making them great gaming devices.

There are several other benefits to updating Huawei and Honor devices to EMUI 9.0. Also, Huawei promises the update is “more pure and secure.” The OS allows fine control of individual apps and their behavior to protect user privacy.

To promote judicious use of smartphones, Huawei has embedded an interesting sleep timer. It makes the device switch between white and black colors to dissuade prolonged usage. Also, the latest EMUI 9.0 update also allows users to grade apps and match them to age brackets. In essence, the OS ecosystem allows intelligent segregation and creation of a children-friendly environment that includes only age-appropriate apps.
