Amazon Prime Video has added a new AI-powered feature for users’ convenience. Notably, the company overhauled the UI earlier this year with new sections for content discovery. The company introduced AI-powered synopsis for movies, web series, etc., and also to suggest new videos. Amazon has now added yet another AI feature called X-Ray Recap so that users can stay up-to-date with what they are watching. Let’s see what this feature is and how it works.
Prime Video’s AI-Generated Recap
One of the recurring issues for binge-watchers is when there’s a long gap between two seasons of a show, and they need to catch up on previous seasons before watching the latest one. Typically, users will watch a video recap on YouTube, read an online summary, or rewatch the last season, which is tedious and time-consuming. With the new X-Ray Recap, Amazon is making this process simpler.
According to the official blog, the X-Ray Recap feature expands on the existing X-Ray features on the platform. The company says the feature is powered by Amazon Bedrock, which is a fully managed AWS service for building and scaling AI applications.
Amazon says that the X-Ray Recap feature uses a combination of Bedrock models and Amazon Sagemaker-trained custom AI models to analyse video segments, dialogues, and subtitles to generate detailed descriptions. It also tries to prevent spoilers and provide concise summaries.
Adam Gray, Vice President of product at Prime Video, said, “With this context-aware functionality, Prime Video will deliver summaries of memorable moments and important plot points so our customers can quickly jump back into what they were watching or rediscover why they fell in love with a series in the first place.“
How to Use Amazon Prime Video X-Ray Recap?
You can select X-Ray Recap anytime, whether you are about to start a new season or already watching an episode. Here’s how you can launch X-Ray Recap:
- Before starting a new season, click the Recap button on the video detail page.
- While watching a video, click the X-Ray button on top and select X-Ray Recap.
- Once selected, you can choose from recaps of the current episode, current season, and previous season.
- You will see a text summary on the screen with a segment-wise breakup.
The new feature is in beta and already rolling out to Fire TV users in the US. The company has assured that it will be available for more devices by the end of the year. We can expect the feature to roll out globally in the coming months.
