Apex Legends, the popular free-to-play battle royale game is set to release on the Epic Games Store on August 6, five years after its initial release. The launch coincides with the game’s upcoming Season 22 update. The news was officially confirmed by Epic Games in an interview with Respawn Entertainment.
Apex Legends Epic Games Store Launch
Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts launched Apex Legends, a free-to-play hero shooter and BR game in February 2019. The game was a hit upon its launch, attracting over 50 million players within one month. The game is in its fifth year and still ranks in the most-played games list on PC.
Apex Legends carved out a distinctive niche in the fiercely competitive battle royale landscape, dominated by giants like Fortnite and PUBG: Battlegrounds. The game’s unique blend of hero shooter mechanics and fast-paced, squad-based gameplay set it apart from the crowd. It is further enhanced by regular updates, which bring in new Legends, maps, weapons, and game modes.
Respawn has announced significant changes related to the upcoming battle pass in Season 22. The new season will split the battle pass into two halves, with 60 levels each. Players can obtain the first split of the battle pass starting August 6 for free by completing simple in-game challenges.
Split 2 will be out in the game on September 17 and can be bought using 950 Apex coins. Apex coins can be earned through Battle Pass. The updated Battle Pass features enhanced rewards, including more Apex Coins, crafting materials, and higher-tier cosmetic items.
Respawn first announced that Battle Pass should be bought through real-world currency instead of Apex coins. This was not received well by the community. Players started to review bombing the game on Steam, taking its former, mostly positive rating down to mostly negative.
Following this, Respawn responded and removed the new monetization model for the Premium tier. Additionally, they have added new tiers: Ultimate and Ultime Plus each costing $9.99 and $19.99, respectively. These new tiers offer additional benefits such as exclusive skins and access to all Legends for an extended period.
