Rockstar Games has finally made a GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto 6) announcement, but it is not what fans wanted to hear. A post from the official Rockstar Games X account has revealed that GTA 6 has been delayed until 2026. The most awaited game of the year was expected to arrive this fall, but will now release next year.
Official GTA 6 Release Date Revealed
Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 will now launch on May 26, 2026. It means fans will now have to wait for another year to get their hands on the next GTA title. This is disappointing news for all the fans, especially considering the Take-Two CEO previously revealed he was feeling really good about the game’s fall 2025 release window.
The official announcement post reads,
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”
The studio added that it “needs this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve”. While this is undoubtedly sad news for GTA fans, the reasons behind the delay are understandable, considering the vast world with exceptional details that Rockstar is known to offer in its open-world games.
One important thing to note is that the new GTA 6 release date of May 2026 is most likely only for consoles. The first official trailer of the game mentioned only consoles as the hardware for the 2025 launch. Since the studio has not specifically mentioned Windows PC once again, it seems like PC gamers will have to wait even longer.
