The announcement post reveals that even though Like a Dragon: Yakuza is inspired by the Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) video games, the show will have an original story. It is directed by Masaharu Take well-known for directing the Japanese drama series The Naked Director.
The show will have Kazuma Kiryu as the lead character, who is also the protagonist in the video game. Ryoma Takeuchi will portray the character and a glimpse of the same can be seen in the teaser poster.
Like a Dragon: Yakuza TV show will have its story spanned across the eras of 1995 and 2005. It will tell the story of Kazuma Kiryu’s life, childhood friends, and the repercussions of his decisions. It “showcases modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, such as the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that games in the past have not been able to explore.”
The series will have six episodes and debut in two batches on October 25 and November 1. Amazon says Prime Video will offer subtitles and/or dubbing in 30 languages. It will be available to stream in over 240 countries and territories worldwide. However, you will need an active Prime Video subscription to enjoy the series in all its glory.
