Microsoft has decided to halt the latest Windows 11 24H2 update for PCs with select Ubisoft games installed. The new update is found to be causing performance issues with some Ubisoft games. These include Star Wars Outlaws, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and three Assassin’s Creed titles.
Windows 11 Update Affected Ubisoft Games
The official announcement mentions that select Ubisoft games might become unresponsive after installing the Windows 11 24H2 update. Players could face issues like the game not responding while starting, loading, or during the active gameplay. There could even be a black screen in some cases.
Here are the Ubisoft games confirmed to be affected by the Windows 11 24H2 update-related issues:
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Ubisoft has issued a new Star Wars Outlaws update with a temporary hotfix for the performance issues. It added players might still face the aforementioned issues while the team is working on a permanent fix alongside Microsoft.
Microsoft further recommends users do not try installing the Windows 11 24H2 update manually via Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool. This is to ensure players do not have to face issues while playing Ubisoft games.
If you have already installed the update and are stuck with an unresponsive Ubisoft game, your only way around is to kill the game through the Task Manager. Use Ctrl + Shift + Esc keyboard shortcut to access the Task Manager, select the game from the list of tasks, and click the End Task button. It is advised that you do not play the game again until Microsoft and Ubisoft announce a permanent solution.
