After weeks of anticipation, Valve has finally launched the iconic Train map for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) in its latest update. Fans have eagerly waited for this map since CS2’s release in September 2023, and now it’s available in the game with some visual overhauls. Here are more details about the map and new changes included in the new CS2 update.
The Iconic Train Map is Now Back in CS2 with Visual Overhauls
The Train map was added to CS2 on November 13, 2024, as part of a new update. Known as one of Counter-Strike’s most iconic and compact maps, Train has been a staple since 1.6, appearing in Source and Global Offensive as well. Now, 14 months after CS2’s launch, it has finally returned to the game.
The train, now available in casual and competitive game modes, has been revamped with CS2’s advanced graphics, creating a darker, gloomier ambience filled with rain-soaked surfaces and shadowy skies—a fresh twist on this fan-favourite. In addition to these visual updates, Valve has subtly reworked Train’s layout, hinting at changes designed to keep even the most seasoned players “on their toes.” The ladder room, a staple of previous versions, has been removed.
Overpass Changes and New Community Maps
In addition to the return of the Train map, Overpass has received extensive changes based on community feedback, with over 20 adjustments focused on visibility, layout balance, and object placements. Expanding the map pool further, Valve has introduced four new community-created maps: Basalt and Edin are now available in casual and competitive modes, while Palais and Whistle have been added for Wingman mode.
While the patch focuses primarily on maps, players can expect minor fixes in subsequent updates as Valve continues to refine CS2‘s overall gameplay experience. You can read the full patch notes for the November 13 update here.
