Garena’s popular battle royale game Free Fire, was the most popular mobile gaming title of December 2021. According to the latest data from app sources published by Sensor Tower, the popular rival of PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile was the most popular overall game of the month.
It was followed by the mobile version of popular console game Rocket League, and a long-time favourite, Subway Surfers. India led the demand for Free Fire, with 26 percent of all its installs coming from the country.
Sensor Tower Top 10: Garena Free Fire and others
In terms of the global top 10 list, Garena Free Fire ranked at the top, followed by Rocket League Sideswipe at number two and Subway Surfers at number three. Zego Global’s ‘Poppy Rope Game’ ranked fourth powered by its demand in the Android ecosystem, while Roblox, which has also seen a significant surge in popularity of late, ranked fifth overall in the world. Free Fire, meanwhile, saw a rise of over 28 percent in its downloads over December 2020.
The remaining five places in the top 10 list published by Sensor Tower include Race Master 3D, Oil Tanker Truck Driving, Brain Story, Candy Crush Saga and Antistress. Interestingly, PUBG Mobile, arguably one of the most popular mobile games around the world, did not feature in the top 10 most downloaded games on Android. It ranked fifth in the Apple App Store demand list, instead.
Innersloth’s popular title Among Us, meanwhile, saw its popularity surge vindicated by ranking eighth in the App Store popularity list. It’s also important to note that Garena Free Fire did not rank among App Store’s top 10, even though it is available for download on iOS devices. Free Fire has seen significant popularity as one of the best battle royale alternatives to PUBG Mobile — the original pioneer of the segment.
Other expectedly popular titles such as Gameloft’s Asphalt franchise and Call of Duty Mobile does not feature among the most downloaded games of December 2021. Sensor Tower says that India is the number one market for mobile games across Android and iOS, which accounted for 717.4 million downloads out of 4.9 billion global game downloads in December last year.
