Gionee M12 Pro

Gionee M12 Pro has been launched in China, and the company’s latest smartphone targets the budget segment with decent specifications to boot. The smartphone seemingly features a shiny rear finish, and one of the more unusual elements on the phone is its rear camera module. While the module itself features four lenses and hence indicates the presence of four rear cameras, reports indicate that it is actually a triple camera unit, with the fourth lens in the module possibly added to maintain symmetry in terms of the overall design. Apart from this quirk, the Gionee M12 Pro is a standard smartphone, and offers decent specifications in comparison to rivalling budget smartphones under Rs 10,000 in the market.

Gionee M12 Pro specifications

The Gionee M12 Pro comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display with 1520 x 720 pixels screen resolution, an IPS LCD display panel and 19:9 aspect ratio. The display features super thin bezels around it with a thicker chin at the bottom, and Gionee claims that this has helped them to offer 90.3 percent screen to body ratio on the M12 Pro.

The smartphone is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P60 processor, and is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage which can be expanded by a microSD card. In terms of cameras, the triple camera module at the back features a 16MP main camera, and unspecified resolution sensors for the ultra-wide angle and macro cameras. As mentioned above, the fourth camera in the module is not an active camera, but a cosmetic lens put in place for design symmetry purposes. To the front, the waterdrop notch on the display houses a 13MP selfie camera.

The Gionee M12 Pro also gets an under-display fingerprint scanner, which is impressive for a budget smartphone. It also features dual stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm audio port for wired earphones as well. All of this is powered by Android 10 and a 4,000mAh battery pack inside. The smartphone weighs 160g, and has been launched in China with a CNY 700 (approx. INR 7,520) price tag. As of now, it is unclear if Gionee will intend to launch the M12 Pro in markets outside China as well.
