Google’s annual developer conference, Google IO will kickstart tonight. This time the Google IO 2022 will be a two-day event 一 May 11th and 12th. The event will be held in person with limited developers and media. Like it has always been in the last few years, the event will be hosted at Shoreline Amphitheatre, which is located located in Mountain View, California.

While the majority of the two-day event will focus on developer-related stuff, the main keynote, which will be held tonight at the start of the event will include all the major announcements around new software, hardware, and updates from Google apps and services. In this article, we will take a look at everything we are expecting Google to announce at the IO 2022.

Google IO 2022: How to Watch it Live and Timings

The Google IO 2022 keynote will start at 10:30 PM IST on May 11, 2022, and you can catch the live-action on Google’s YouTube channel. The keynote is likely to be hosted by Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai and other VPs from Google. In case you are unable to follow the live-action, you can come back later and watch the video again. Android 13Android 13

The biggest attention drawer for the show as always will be the Android. Google is expected to announce Android 13 Beta 2. After successfully testing out Android 13 in the developer preview phase starting from Feburary 2022, the search engine giant will is expected to announce all the new features of the new Android 13 beta. Since Android 12 was released with a big UI overhaul, most of the changes in Android 13 are expected to be under the hood or minor changes and optimizations. Nevertheless, Google is expected to pull off some new features. Among the top expected features, we are expecting support for spacial audio. Google might also make some announcements on Android 12L, which is a large screen specific Android software.

Google Pixel 6aGoogle Pixel 6a

The much-rumoured Pixel 6a mid-range smartphone from Google might be announced on the same stage as well. The Pixel 6a has been in the news for a solid few months now and the device reportedly went under mass production recently. Going by the past news and rumours, the Pixel 6a will come with a Tensor processor with two Arm Cortex-X1 cores clocked at 2.8GHz, two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.25GHz, and four efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The phone is expected to offer at least 6GB of RAM. It will run Android 12 out of the box. It will likely feature a 12.2MP Sony IMX363 sensor and a 12MP ultrawide camera.

Google Pixel Buds ProPixel Buds A Series

Google’s new audio product might take on the likes of  Apple AirPods ProSony WF-1000XM4, and more this year. A recent report revealed that Google is prepping to launch the Google Pixel Buds Pro and we might witness the launch of the same during the Google IO. The Pixel Buds Pro will be a high-end earbud and it is expected to feature an active noise cancellation feature as well as Google Assistant integration. Apart from that, the TWS could also feature support for spatial audio and head tracking, which is some exciting stuff. Tipster, Jon Prosser has already revealed that the Pro will be available in four colour options 一 Real Red, Carbon, Limoncello, and Fog.

Updates on Wear OSWear OS 3.0 Tizen

At last year’s Google IO, Google and Samsung teamed up to announce Wear OS . While a handful of smartwatches are expected to receive the Wear OS 3.0 update later this year, it has remained exclusive to the Galaxy Watch 4 series smartwatches. At this year’s event, we are expecting Google to announce more updates on the Wear OS 3 (or Wear OS 4) smartwatches and partnerships from different brands. And, in terms of software as well, we can expect Google to announce some new features and enhancements.

A new Google Nest Hub?

Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) was announced back in March 2022. This time around, while there is no confirmation on the new Nest Hub yet, Google is said to be working on the Nest Hub 3 with a detachable tablet-like design and we might get a glimpse at the same on the stage. If this turns out to be true, users will be able to detach the smart display and use it as a standalone tablet.

Everything else

Apart from these major expected announcements at the Google IO 2022, the company is will share some new features and enhancements for the Android ecosystem, smart home, Chrome OS, Chrome, and Google apps. Apart from these, we can expect Google to announce new features and updates for popular apps like Gmail, Meet, Google Maps, Google Photos, and more. It might also launch a new app at the event.

Lastly, as per some rumours, Google Pixel Watch, which has been in talks since Google acquired Fitbit might be showcased or teased. A few leaked images gave us the first look at Google’s first smartwatch. It will feature a circular display with a side button as well as a crown. It is also rumoured to offer a 300mAh battery.
