Several Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users are experiencing battery drain and overheating issues, as per the posts on Reddit, Google support forum, and Twitter. As per Engadget, a reader wrote to them mentioning that his Pixel 6 Pro has been overheating and excessively draining the battery. The user suspects that this new issue is due to the Google app and an update that began rolling out on May 12.
Another user on Reddit wrote that “I’m in the same boat. It just started yesterday. Massive battery usage from Google app and to a lesser degree Android System Intelligence. I just went through and did a factory reset, reinstalled most things and it’s still happening. Beyond the battery not lasting the phone is getting really warm so I know it’s harming the battery & potentially the CPU”.

Considering the battery drain issues, some users tried to contact the Google support staff, however, they haven’t been very helpful. Additionally, some users tried to roll back to an older version of the Google app, but that also hasn’t fixed the problem.
In fact, one of the users on Reddit wrote that he is on an older version from May 10, and it is still causing the battery drain issue. Several users also took to the Google support forum as well as Twitter to report the battery drain issue, as mentioned above. On Reddit, a user named nocapsallspaces mentioned that he has been losing 20 per cent battery in under an hour without using the phone. Some users also think that the battery drain issue has become worse after the May update. Currently, Google has not released any statement regarding the battery drain and overheating issue. Maybe, we can expect the company to release a new software update or an update to the Google app to address this new issue.

This isn’t the first time users are experiencing new issues due to the app or the software update. Last year in May, Google had to patch the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro after an earlier update caused phones to produce much weaker haptic feedback. Additionally, a year before, Google had to pause the rollout of its December Pixel update after users found it was making their phones drop calls.
