Google has officially confirmed that the Pixel fold, its first ever foldable phone, is launching this month. The company is hosting the Google I/O 2023 keynote on May 10 where we could get our first look at the Pixel Fold, which has already been teased with this video this week.
Google has only shown us the design of the device and we still don’t know much about the features of the Pixel Fold. The video clearly shows us a wide footprint of the Pixel Fold which is slightly different in the aspect ratio compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 but similar to what Oppo Find N2 Fold offers. Rumours suggest the first Pixel foldable phone will have a hefty price tag so Google will have to prove its worth by making this a solid product. Here is a launch round-up of everything that we know about the Pixel Fold and its expected price.

Google Pixel Fold Launch Date, Event Time, Where To Watch Online
Google Pixel Fold is launching on Wednesday, May 10 on the sidelines of the Google I/O 2023 keynote which will be virtually hosted by the company once again this year. You can watch the I/O 2023 keynote live stream from 10:30 PM IST by heading over to the official Google YouTube page.
Google Pixel Fold Expected Price in India
Google Pixel Fold is likely to be priced in the premium segment like the other foldable devices available in the market. As we have previously suggested, the Pixel Fold could have a starting price of $1700 (Rs 1.46 lakh approx) for the 12GB + 256GB variant. Going by these figures and adding the taxes, the Pixel Fold India price could be around Rs 1.55 lakh.
Google Pixel Fold Expected Sale Date in India
Google Pixel Fold is going to be announced on May 10 at the I/O 2023 keynote next week, and it is expected that Google will start taking pre-orders for the Pixel Fold later this month, and most likely have the Pixel Fold available in the market around June or July.
Google Pixel Fold Expected Specifications and Features
Google’s first Pixel Fold is unlikely to disrupt the market with its design, features or hardware. But being a Google device means people expect the foldable to get a polished software that is tuned for the form factor. But here are the other expected specifications of the Pixel Fold.
Outer Display Matters
Most people didn’t bother about it much before but now everyone wants companies to offer a bigger outer screen on foldable or flip phones. It was probably a case of someone showing its usefulness and then others to follow. Going by the rumours, Google will offer a 5.8-inch cover screen with a 17:4:9 aspect ratio and that supports Full HD+ resolution along with a 120Hz refresh rate screen. Reports also say the screen will get Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. We are hoping the cover screen is also an OLED panel, especially if this is going to be a premium device as suggested. Having a big outer display will ensure the space is utilised for things beyond notifications.
Tensor G2 Powering the Fold
Google’s current custom Tensor G2 chip will be powering the Pixel Fold device, and we can ascertain that based on the launch timeline. The next Pixel 8 series is likely to get the Tensor G3 chip but since Google has been working on the foldable for a while, it might end up using the G2 chip for its first Fold device. Having this hardware has delivered mixed results for Google with the Pixel 7 series and even the Pixel 7a is expected to feature this SoC. We are hoping Google optimises the levels of the Tensor G2 chip to deliver a flagship-grade performance.
The Pixel Camera Experience
Google has been evolving with the imaging tech on the Pixel series with every generation and we expect nothing but flagship quality from the premium Pixel Fold as well. As per the rumours, the Pixel Fold will come with a triple camera setup at the back that comprises a 48MP primary sensor and two 10.8MP sensors, mostly likely with an ultrawide and telephoto capabilities. Aided by Google’s computational photography, the Pixel Fold could offer the benchmark for cameras on a foldable.
Android Tuned For the Fold
Foldables available in the market run Android but all OEMs have customised the software with their elements. With the Pixel Fold, expect a stock Android experience, but Google has to make sure that the software is well tuned to run on the device. By that we mean the apps should be compatible at launch, and we hope that the Pixel Fold doesn’t falter like Android tablets because of the software lacking the nous to be a competent platform.
Other Specifications and Features
What else do we know about the Pixel Fold? Well, rumours say the unfolded version will give you a 7.6-inch OLED panel with a 6:5 aspect ratio and a 380 PPI display. The Tensor G2 chip will be paired with 12GB RAM and offer up to 512GB of storage. The device should offer eSIM support, making it a dual-SIM product. It is said that the Pixel Fold will weigh around 238 grams and come with Android 13 version out of the box. Pixel Fold is expected to come with a 4821mAh battery that will support 30W charging speed.
