HMD Global Plans to Launch Affordable 5G Nokia Phones in India

HMD Global is planning to launch a slew of affordable 5G Nokia-branded smartphones in India this year. The company has revealed that it is also planning to make India as its hub for global exports. Sanmeet Kochhar, Vice President, HMD Global, revealed the brand’s plan for 2021 in an interview. He says that the company is planning to bring customised smartphones for the Indian market. HMD Global to Launch Affordable 5G Nokia Phones

HMD Global Vice President Sanmeet Kochhar told Financial Express Online that the company is planning to bring new affordable 5G smartphones in India. “We are looking at India as an important market and the first thing that we are going to do is look at products which are customized for the Indian market. Second is 5G, which is an important space that we have decided to play in, and we are looking at how we can launch more affordable 5G devices this year,” he told the publication.

He also added that the HMD Global focus will on providing better, future-proof software to its customers. Kochhar says that the brand is looking at India as its next global export hub. “India as a source for our exports is something that we are evaluating very closely. It is difficult to give a timeframe, but as I said, India is an important market for us, and we will continue to evaluate India, not only for our domestic consumption but also from an export point of view,” he said.

Meanwhile, we exclusively reported that HMD Global is planning to launch Nokia 1.4 smartphone. The handset will offer similar design language as compared to its predecessor, though with some stark difference. To start with, it will offer a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 1GB RAM, and 16GB onboard storage. Coming to the optics, Nokia 1.4 will offer a dual-rear camera setup with an LED flash. The primary sensor will carry an 8MP resolution while the secondary sensor will be a 2MP sensor. For the selfies, the Nokia 1.4 will pack a 5MP front shooter. The smartphone will be equipped with a 4,000mAh battery unit which will charge over a micro-USB 2.0 port.
