Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to come out on PC on 10th February 2023 and its final PC specs have been revealed. It would appear that even though the GPU floor is still relatively low, the game requires quite a bit of RAM to run even at low settings. Judging from the gameplay footage released, Hogwarts Legacy looks like a pretty expansive game that will push PCs to their limits.
It is also a good sign that the dev team at Avalanche Softworks is taking additional time to release a last-gen version of the game. This reflects that the team is prioritizing polish and that the game will only come out once its ready.
The game’s release was pushed back by several months as it was initially scheduled to release in November 2022. A delay, while not pleasing at first, is ultimately a good call for both the devs and the audience. As it means that the game will be at a decent level when it does eventually come out.
Hogwarts Legacy is expected to be one of the year’s most high-profile releases and its success will probably determine the IP’s value as a gaming franchise. The Harry Potter/Wizarding World IP has been absent from gaming for a rather long time and Hogwarts Legacy is its big return to the big stage.
The game is set several hundred years before the events of the Harry Potter books and movies, so expect surprises by the truckload. It will be interesting to see how the game is going to stick to the source material and how much addition to the lore it is going to do. It will be interesting to see whether the game ends up being canonical to the franchise as a whole.
