The Honor 8 is currently receiving a new EMUI update that brings Android 8.0 Oreo to the device. Back in January, Honor had stated that the Honor 8 will not receive the Oreo update. However, the company went back on its words and has begun providing beta updates for the phone in China. It even released a stable Oreo update for the device a few weeks later.

In September this year, several users in India, France, and a few other regions, also started to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Now, more Honor 8 users in India are receiving a new EMUI 8.0 update based on Android Oreo.

Honor 8 Android Oreo Update

Some users in India, who own the Honor 8, are reporting that their devices are getting the EMUI 8.0 update. The version number is a step above the last Oreo build, which was EMUI 8.0.0.512. The new version carries the build number EMUI 8.0.0.513 and is being sent out to users in batches. The update is available as an OTA, but most users had to use the Firmware Finder to get the notification.

Don’t worry if you haven’t received the update yet. It could take anywhere from a few days to a week for all users to get the new update. Honor is seeding the update in batches, which means that a bunch of users should get the update next week. The update sizes up to a good 2.3GB and includes several new features, UI changes, performance improvements, and more.

Honor 8 users have been patiently waiting for the Oreo update ever since the company started seeding it back in September. There does not seem to be any difference between the two updates, as both of them bring the latest Android 8.0 Oreo system to the device. The difference seems to be in the version number and perhaps the security patch. If you are running the previous version, we recommend that you update to the latest software.

The Honor 8 is quite an old device, but is still considered to be a decent smartphone. It was originally released in July 2016 and featured a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a Kirin 950 chipset, dual-rear cameras, 4GB RAM, and a 3000mAh battery. For 2016, this was a flagship smartphone and it is good to see that Honor managed to give the phone a little extra life with the Oreo update.

Honor Pie Update

The Huawei sub-brand, Honor, has been working on bringing Android 9.0 Pie to some of its current smartphones. The Honor 10, Honor View 10, and Honor Play (Review), will soon be receiving new software updates that bring new features and improvements. Honor had promised to start delivering the EMUI 9.0 update, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie, from November 10.

Last week, the Honor Play was spotted running Android 9.0 Pie on Geekbench. In China, the phone has already started receiving the new software update. This means that the update should be released very soon for the gaming focused smartphone in India as well. The beta version of Pie has been available to Honor Play, Honor 10, and Honor View 10 users in India since last month. The Honor View 10 and Honor 10 will also start receiving the update soon. EMUI 9.0 includes features such as GPU Turbo 2.0, faster app loading, improved AI, nature inspired sounds, and more.
