Huawei’s sub-brand Honor launched the Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max last month. One feature that stands out is the display size of the two phones, with the Honor 8X sporting a 6.5-inch display, and the Honor 8X Max flaunting a 7.12-inch display. With a screen-to-body ratio of nearly 90 percent, single-handed use of the phones is not that easy. Thankfully, Honor has now released a new software update that not only comes with screen gestures but also WeChat fingerprint payment.

Honor 8X, 8X Max Get A Bunch Of New Features With New Update

The new software update will make it easy to operate the Honor 8X series because of the introduction of gesture navigation. With the arrival of gesture navigation, it would be easy to leverage the large displays of the two phones. The gestures are also fairly simple to use and are reminiscent of the screen gestures on iPhones and Android smartphones.

Honor has started pushing out the new update already and you can enable the new feature on your phone by going to Settings – System – System Navigation- Gesture Navigation.

Apart from full-screen gestures, the new update also brings WeChat fingerprint payment to the Honor 8X series. Honor had not supported fingerprint payment up until now because the WeChat fingerprint verification method involves uploading fingerprint data to the cloud, which Honor did not deem as secure. The issue has now been resolved with the introduction of hardware-level security solutions that processes all the information at the phone’s local TEE OS security system, which provides a high level of protection against software-based attacks. Since most modern smartphones come with fingerprint scanners, it was about time that Honor started supporting fingerprint authentication.

The new update has now started rolling out and most Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max users can expect to receive it by October 19.

How Honor 8X Rivals Other Phones In India

Honor is known for making class-leading smartphones at an affordable price and the Snapdragon 710-fueled Honor 8X smartphones are no exception. With a sleek body and notched display, the design language is synonymous with many of the 2018 flagships. Although Honor has cut some corners to keep the price below, those are the things that average users may not even care about such as the use of a Micro USB port instead of a USB-C port. The phone is also not waterproof. The series also features Honor’s GPU Turbo technology for boosting the gaming experience. There is also a dual camera system with AI capabilities and a 3750mAh battery. The Honor 8X also offers both face unlock technology and fingerprint sensor for authentication.

The phones have been launched in India. The price of the 6GB RAM/128GB Storage variant of the Honor 8X starts at Rs. 18,999, both the phones Amazon exclusive. It will compete with other phones in the same price range such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Realme 2 Pro. The Honor 8X might do better in the market because of its better camera specs and larger display size. Moreover, it is powered by a Snapdragon 710 SoC, while the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Nokia 6.1 Plus are powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor, and the Realme 2 Pro is fueled by a Snapdragon 660 chipset.
