While it has been an incredible year for Huawei and its sub-brand Honor internationally with Huawei/Honor becoming the worlds second largest smartphone vendor after Samsung, things are yet to take off for them in India. The company, however, seems to be in a mood to change this status quo and has been on a phone launching spree in our country. After the launch of the popular Honor Play just a few months ago, the company recently launched the Honor 8X here in India. The successor to the popular Honor 7X from earlier this year seems to have been well received by the Indian consumer.
Honor 8X top selling phone on Amazon’s Great Indian Festival
According to recent reports, the Honor 8X has become the best selling smartphone on Amazon on the first day of the Amazon Great Indian Festival. The claim has come from Honor themselves and was first reported by Indian media house Times Now. With a couple of days still left for the sale on Amazon to end, it would be interesting to see whether the Honor 8X does manage to hold on to the number one spot.
Honor 8X: Specifications, features
As already mentioned earlier, the Honor 8X is the successor to the Honor 7X that was announced back in January 2018. The new phone boasts of several upgrades over its predecessor and has been positioned below the Honor Play in India. As far as the spec sheet of the handset is concerned, let us first talk about the display which in this case happens to be a large 6.5-inch notched IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a PPI density of 397.
While the past two generations of the Honor XX lineup used the Kirin 659 chipset, this time around, the chipset has been finally upgraded to the brand new Hisilicon Kirin 710. This new chipset Kirin 710 is based on a 12nm manufacturing process and comes with four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at up to 2.2 GHz, and four Cortex-A53 little cores that chugs along at up to 1.7 GHz. The graphics department is taken care of by the ARM Mali G51 GPU. The phone ships in three RAM and storage capacity variants in India starting off with a base 4GB RAM variant and topping out with a 6GB variant. All the versions support dual-channel LPDDR4 memory. The phone gets a fairly large 3750 mAh battery that should be more than capable of endowing it with day-long battery life.
For imaging, the Honor 8X uses a dual camera set up at the rear and a single front-facing camera. The primary camera is a 20-megapixel, f/1.8 unit while the secondary rear camera is a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The front facing camera is a 16-megapixel sensor that uses a f/2.0 lens. The Honor 8X can record full HD videos at 30fps in the highest settings.
The Honor 8X currently runs EMUI 8.2 that is based in Android 8.1 Oreo. There is a good possibility that the device would soon be upgraded to Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.
Honor 8X: Price, current offers
The Honor 8X is sold in three variants with the base 4GB RAM + 64GB version star priced at INR 14,999. This is followed by the 6GB + 64GB version that will set you back by INR 16,999. The most expensive version priced at Rs.17,999 comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Customers who wish to purchase the Honor 8X can also avail a 10% discount on the MRP of the base version if they use their ICICI or Citibank credit or debit cards to make the purchase. Users can also choose the EMI option with monthly payments starting at just INR 706.
