Since the release of Android Pie, all the Android phone users have been waiting to get the taste of Pie on their smartphones. However, not all the OEMs have been quick enough to release the updates to their phones, and there are still a majority of Android phones deprived of Pie update. Now, two OEMs Nokia and Honor have revealed their plans for Android Pie update on their phones – Nokia 3.1 Plus, Nokia 5, and the Honor 8X. While Honor has already opened beta tests for Pie update on the Honor 8X, HMD Global has revealed its roadmap for Pie updates on Nokia phones. Let’s check out what both the brands have in store for their respective phones.
Honor 8X EMUI 9-based Android 9 Pie Beta Opens
Honor took the Honor 8X to the global markets, but the phone still debuted with Android Oreo instead of Pie. Now that the company has opened a beta program for the Pie update on the phone, we are at peace. Honor forums on XDA have a new thread for the Honor 8X fans, calling them to test the beta update before the company rolls out the stable EMUI 9 version for the phone. For those unaware, OEMs opt for beta testing before rolling out a stable update to squash bugs beforehand. During beta tests, the testers report directly to the company whenever they come across any bug. If you have the Honor 8X smartphone, then you need to click on this link for downloading and installing the beta APK.
Google released the Android 9.0 Pie in August 2018, and since then we have been wondering when our Android phones under the two-year update warranty will get the taste of Pie. We have been keeping an eye on the newly launched phones and tracking if they debut with the latest software version under the hood. Honor launched the Honor 8X and the Honor 8X Max in China in September 2018, a month after the unveiling of Android Pie by Google. Of course, we did not hope them to come with Pie but we were looking forward to an update. The beta update is here for the Honor 8X. It shouldn’t take much time for the company to start rolling out a stable update for the phone soon.

In the roadmap, HMD Global has detailed the step-by-step delivery of Pie update on Nokia phones. The timeline starts with Android 9 Pie OS code SW delivery by Google, wherein the tech giant releases an OS code to chipset vendors including source files and platform development kits. The second step traces the release from chipset vendors followed by the third step, i.e. integration of Android One features and Nokia-specific features, done by HMD Global. The fourth step encompasses the testing of the OS that also includes beta testing. The fifth step covers quality, operator, standard checks. After all the tests are done, and HMD Global is sure about the update, it releases the final and stable update to Nokia users.
