Honor announced the Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 beta update for the Honor 8X phablet in China last month. The update was made available for users in China earlier this month. The global variants of the Honor 8X, however, are yet to receive the Pie beta update. Honor’s popular mid-range phablet has now been caught on the Geekbench benchmark database running on the Android 9.0 Pie operating system. The listing suggests Honor may soon release the stable EMUI 9.0 update for the Honor 8X, at least for the Chinese variant.

Honor 8X EMUI 9.0 Update Arriving Soon?

Taking a look at the benchmark scores, Honor has done a decent job with optimizing the Android 9 Pie update for the phablet. Both the single-core and multi-core scores are roughly on par with the average scores that the Honor 8X manages to score running on Android 8.1 Oreo. Since the stable release was pushed out to users in China a few days back, there is a possibility of the stable update rolling out for the Honor 8X in the manufacturer’s home country by the end of the year. In case that does not happen, Honor 8X users in China will likely have to wait until early next year to receive the stable EMUI 9.0 update.

Owners of the Honor 8X global variant, on the other hand, may have to wait longer to receive the stable Android Pie update. The Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 beta update, however, might be released for the global variant very soon. EMUI 9.0 brings a minimalist natural design, system speed enhancements, greater AI capabilities, and GPU Turbo 2.0 technology to further enhance the gaming experience.

Announced in September this year, the Honor 8X is an impressive phablet featuring a 6.5-inch notched display with 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It runs on Huawei’s in-house developed Kirin 710 12nm octa-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz with a Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. In terms of optics, the Honor 8X has a 20MP + 2MP dual-camera setup at the rear and a 16MP selfie snapper on the front. It is fueled by a 3750mAh capacity non-removable battery with 10W fast charging support.
