Honor Magic 2 3D

Honor launched the Magic 2 smartphone in China last October, and the brand recently teased that it would launch the Magic 2 3D soon. Well, the wait is over. Honor has launched the Magic 2 3D in China. This new smartphone is basically the Honor Magic 2 but with a 3D camera at the front and a graphene heat pipe for better cooling. The Honor Magic 2 3D comes in only 8GB RAM + 512GB storage variant, and it costs CNY 5,799. The Honor Magic 2 3D will be available to purchase starting today in China from multiple channels including V-Mall.

How Is The 3D Camera Sensor Beneficial?

To recall, the Honor Magic 2 had a 16MP + 2MP + 2MP triple camera at the front. The 16MP camera is the main unit used for capturing photos and recording videos, while the two 2MP cameras are depth-sensors to record depth information for enhancing portrait images and making the face unlock more secure. However, these 2MP depth-sensors cannot capture the depth information of the face as accurately as the 3D sensors can. Hence, the face recognition information these 2MP cameras provide is not reliable enough for a secure face unlock or payment authentication.

The Honor Magic 2 3D replaces one of the two 2MP cameras with a 3D camera. This new 3D camera sensor has far more accurate depth-scanning leading to more precise face recognition. Hence, with this 3D camera sensor, the Honor Magic 2 3D will have more secure face unlock. Furthermore, the face recognition from the 3D camera sensor is reliable enough for authenticating payments.

What About The Graphene Heat Pipe?

Most flagship smartphones nowadays have a copper heat pipe, which helps in dissipating the heat generated by the SoC for an unthrottled performance. However, a few smartphones nowadays feature a graphene heat pipe, which is more capable of dissipating heat as compared to the copper heat pipe. As the Honor Magic 2 3D has a graphene heat pipe, it will run at lower temperatures than the copper heat pipe equipped Honor Magic 2. This will allow the Honor Magic 2 3D to sustain higher clock speeds for a longer time. In simpler terms, as the Honor Magic 2 3D will run at lower temperatures, it will perform better under continuous heavy loads, such as when you are gaming.

Honor Magic 2 3D Specifications

Apart from the 3D camera and the graphene heat pipe, the rest of the specifications of the Honor Magic 2 3D are similar to the Honor Magic 2.

The Honor Magic 2 3D features a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution. The device has a total of six cameras – three at the front and three at the rear. The triple-camera at the rear includes 16MP conventional, 16MP ultra-wide, and 24MP monochrome camera sensors. Whereas, the triple-camera at the front includes a 16MP main camera, a 3D depth-sensor, an additional 2MP depth-sensor. The rear camera can record 4K videos, while the front-facing camera can record Full HD videos.

The Honor Magic 2 3D is powered by the Kirin 980 SoC. The device comes in only on configuration – 8GB RAM + 512GB storage. The smartphone runs on Android 9 Pie operating system with Magic UI 2.0 customization. The Honor Magic 2 3D has a 3500mAh battery with 40W fast charging, USB Type-C port, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.
