The Honor Magic 2 has been in the spotlight for some time now thanks to a steady stream of leaks. This phone is expected to offer a sliding mechanism similar to what we have seen with the Oppo Find X (review). With the launch of this phone just a few weeks away, a new image has surfaced that hints towards a special Tesla Edition of the smartphone.
Honor Magic 2 Tesla Edition
The leaked image is simply of a black box with the Tesla branding printed in the middle and with ‘Honor Magic 2’ printed at the bottom. Most assume this could be the phone’s official retail box. However, this image has also been met with considerable skepticism as the box could easily be fake. With that said, a partnership between Honor and Tesla isn’t that outlandish considering Honor’s parent brand, Huawei has partnered with Porsche on multiple occasion including the recently unveiled Huawei Mate 20 series.
Honor Magic 2 With A Sliding Camera Setup
A teaser video posted by Honor recently showcases how the upcoming smartphone will come with a slider that very much resembles the one found on the Oppo Find X. However, it looks like this mechanism will not work automatically, but instead require a manual sliding action similar to what we have seen with the Mi Mix 3 in a recently leaked video. Regardless, this mechanical component helps Honor maintain a notch-less aesthetic on the Honor Magic 2. The device is said to offer a close to a 100 percent screen-to-body-ratio, but the validity of this claim remains to be seen.
Honor Magic 2 Specifications We Know So Far
Huawei has already confirmed that the upcoming Honor Magic 2 will be powered by its flagship Kirin 980 chipset which is based on the 7nm process. The phone is said to support 40W ‘Magic Charge’ technology. Furthermore, Honor’s president Zhao Ming hinted that the device would come with various AI features to improve the user experience.
Reports in the past have suggested the Honor Magic 2 will come with a 6-inch AMOLED panel with 2880×1440 pixels resolution. The phone is speculated to come with 6GB of RAM and run Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.2 out-of-the-box. Considering the recently announced Huawei Mate 20 series will ship with Android 9.0 Pie, it is likely the same will be true for the Honor Magic 2 as well.
Another recently leaked image of the back of this device claims the phone will feature a quad-camera primary setup. The leaked image also shows speaker grills beside the bottom-mounted charging port. This indicates an absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom. Considering the top of the phone houses a physically moving part, it is unlikely that a headphone jack has been added there. If this observation turns out to be true, then expect to use a USB Type-C to 3.5mm converter to enjoy wired audio.
