Honor Magic 2 Spotted On Geekbench With Kirin 980, 8GB RAM
Honor's upcoming Magic 2 flagship smartphone has now been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database. Earlier this month, it had received certifications from TENAA and MIIT certification agencies in China.
At its IFA 2018 press conference in August, Huawei teased the Honor Magic 2, successor to the Honor Magic from 2016. The smartphone is set to be launched in China on October 31stas the first Honor-branded smartphone to feature the latest HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset. Ahead of its launch, two variants of the Honor Magic 2 were recently spotted on TENAA and MIIT certification websites. The smartphone has now popped up on the popular Geekbench benchmark database as well.

Honor Magic 2 Appears on Geekbench
The Honor Magic 2 TNY-AL00 Geekbench listing reconfirms the presence of a Kirin 980 7nm processor under the hood. While Huawei has already launched Kirin 980-powered Mate 20, Mate 20X, and Mate 20 Pro flagship smartphones, the Magic 2 will be Honor’s first smartphone to run on the latest flagship mobile chipset from HiSilicon. In the memory department, the benchmark listing tells us the Magic 2 will be available with 8GB of RAM. However, as revealed by the smartphone’s TENAA listing earlier this month, the smartphone will be sold in a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant as well. Unsurprisingly, the Honor Magic 2 is currently being tested on the Android 9.0 Pie operating system. Similar to the latest Mate 20 series, the Honor Magic 2 is expected to ship with Huawei’s EMUI 9 custom user-interface out of the box. As for the performance numbers, the upcoming flagship managed to score 3,316 points in the single-core test and 9,534 points in the multi-core test. Needless to say, the Kirin 980 is a beast when it comes to benchmark performance.

Honor Magic 2 TNY-AL00 and TNY-TL00 Variants Certified by TENAA, MIIT
The TNY-AL00 and TNY-TL00 listings on the TENAA website do not include any images of the upcoming smartphone but they do confirm all the key specifications. On the other hand, the MIIT certification does not include any interesting information with regards to the smartphone’s key features or specifications. Thanks to the TENAA listing, we now know that the Honor Magic 2 will arrive with a 6.39-inch AMOLED display featuring 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution and an ultra-tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to a slide-out camera design, the smartphone is said to feature a “near 100%” screen-to-body ratio. In terms of physical size, the TENAA listings reveal the smartphone will measure 157.32 x 75.13 x 8.3mm and weigh 206 grams. In the memory department, the TNY-AL00 variant will be available in two configurations – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. The TNY-TL00 variant of the handset, on the other hand, will pack 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard memory.

In the camera department, Honor Magic 2 will sport an impressive 16MP + 24MP + 16MP triple-camera setup at the rear. On the front will be a 16MP main snapper with two TOF lenses to enable 3D facial recognition. In addition to 3D facial recognition, Honor Magic 2 is expected to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor as well. Keeping the lights on will be a 3400mAh capacity battery with 40W SuperCharge technology for fast charging. In terms of connectivity, the upcoming Honor flagship smartphone will support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C, and Dual 4G VoLTE. The Honor Magic 2 will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack and will instead be bundled with a USB Type-C to 3.5mm audio adapter in the box. In terms of software, the Honor Magic 2 will be running on the Android 9 Pie operating system at launch with Huawei’s EMUI 9 custom user-interface layer on top.
Honor Magic 2 Images Shared on Weibo by Zhao Liying
Earlier today, Chinese celebrity Zhao Liying shared a few images of the upcoming Honor Magic 2 on Weibo. The images show the smartphone in the Red color option, along with the retail packaging. As you can see in the images below, the slide-out camera design allows the smartphone to have an all-screen front. At the rear, we can see the smartphone’s triple-camera setup with “AI VISION” inscribed below the three sensors. While no details are available currently, we expect the smartphone to offer a number of AI-assisted features such as intelligent scene recognition, portrait mode, and more. In addition to AI VISION, the Honor Magic 2 will also come with a new AI voice assistant called YOYO, which is said to be significantly improved compared to the company’s previous AI assistant.
