Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has already started sending out invites for the unveiling of its upcoming phone Honor V20 in China, which will most likely be called the Honor View 20 outside of the country. It appears that the effect of the name has started rubbing off on the smartphone, as its image sensing capacity is something to look out for. However, the camera isn’t the only thing to look forward to in the phone, as it will also come with the Link Turbo technology that will multiplex both Wi-Fi and LTE connections.

The First Phone To Feature A 48MP Camera

The Honor V20 will feature a 48MP camera, making it the first smartphone ever to come with the camera configuration. Although, the high-pixel-count of the sensor would ensure better quality pictures, it is Sony’s IMX586 CMOS sensor that could make a difference in the dark, owing to the pixel-binning technology. This 1/2.0-inch CMOS sensor will be supplemented with Huawei’s Light Fusion technology that combines multiple images in quick succession to come up with better low-light pictures. So, in layman’s term, we can expect the phone to churn out some pretty neat photos regardless of the lighting conditions. Honor has even claimed that the phone can produce DSLR-level pictures and going by the sample images, it does appear so. However, given that the company has an affinity for passing on DSLR images as smartphone pictures, we are not sure what to believe.

The phone will come with an All-View Display, featuring a circular display cutout to house the selfie camera. Apparently, Huawei is eager to beat Samsung to the punch, as the company had previously teased the Nova 4 with a similar screen design. The company also took the opportunity to throw shade at the South Korean behemoth, by highlighting that the peephole measures 4.5mm in diameter, which is 42% smaller than that of Samsung’s 6mm screen cutout. Moreover, a special design has apparently been used, which will enable the selfie shooter to function properly without compromising the integrity of the display.

Link Turbo

The 48MP rear camera and the small display hole are not the only things to look forward to. The Honor V20 will also feature a new technology that combines Wi-Fi and LTE signals to increase download speeds. It has been dubbed Link Turbo by the company and it enables simultaneous downloading through 4G networks and Wi-Fi for maximum throughput. The technology uses AI and big data to analyze network conditions and switch between Wi-Fi and 4G.

The Honor V20 will be fueled by the Kirin 980 chipset, the same processor that powers the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Honor Magic 2. It will complement the phone’s camera with its AI and image processing features. The phone is also rumored to come with a ToF 3D sensor that will enable to create 3D models for AR. Apart from that, the handset might also offer 22.5W fast charging and it will come pre-installed with the EMUI 9.0 system on top of Android 9 Pie.

The Honor V20 will be revealed on December 26 at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium in Beijing, China. After being launched in China, the phone will be revealed in Paris, France on January 22. It is expected to cost around INR 29,000 when it is released.
