Instagram: How to Create a Second Instagram Account and Switch Between Multiple Accounts

To set some boundaries between personal and business accounts, having a second account is very important so that things won’t mix up. 

In this guide, we will take a look at how one can create a second Instagram account. This will be useful for a business, a page, a store, and much more. First, we will take a look at how one can create a new account on Instagram using Android and iPhone and then on Computer. Later, we will take you through how you can add and switch between your accounts on your phone and computer. Instagram allows you to add up to five accounts.

How to Create a Second Instagram Account on Android and iPhone

  1. Open Instagram App (make sure you have already signed in with your first account)
  2. Tap on your profile photo on the bottom right
  3. Tap on the three horizontal lines on the top right
  4. Select Settings 
  5. Scroll down and tap on Add Account
  6. Select “Create new account”
  7. Enter the username you’d like to have for your account to check for availability

  8. Enter your password and tap on “Next”
  9. Tap on Complete Signup (You can add your phone number and email id in this step)
  10. Next, you will be prompted to add a profile photo, you can add or skip

Your second account will be created on Instagram and you will appear on the homepage of your second account. You can start following people, and pages and do much more on your second account. 

How to Create a Second Instagram Account on the Desktop

  1. Go to Instagram.com
  2. Click on “Sign up”
  3. Enter your phone number/email, full name, username, and password
  4. Click on “Sign up”

Alternatively, if you have a Facebook account, which is not linked to your primary Instagram account, you can use that to sign up for your second account here. Your new account will be created and you will be logged in to the homepage of the secondary account. 

How to Add Second Account on Instagram on Android and iPhone

Once you have created your second account on Instagram, you can add the same on your phone as well as on your computer. Here is how you can do the same.

  1. Open Instagram App on your phone with your primary account 
  2. Tap on your profile photo on the bottom right
  3. Tap on the three horizontal lines on the top right
  4. Select Settings 
  5. Scroll down and tap on Add Account

  6. Select “Log into existing account”
  7. Enter the username and password, which you created for your second account
  8. Tap on “Login”

Instagram will take you to the home screen of your second Instagram account.

How to Add Second Account on Instagram on Computer

  1. Go to Instagram.com and make sure you are signed in with at least one account
  2. Click on your profile photo on the top bar
  3. Select “Switch Account”
  4. Click on “Log into an existing account”
  5. Enter username and password
  6. Click on Login 

How to Switch Between Accounts on Instagram

  1. Open the Instagram app (make sure you have already logged in to 2 accounts)
  2. Tap on your profile photo on the bottom right
  3. Tap your username at the top of the screen
  4. Tap the account that you’d like to switch to

ProTip: You can also long-press the profile photo on the bottom right to switch accounts. 

On computers, you can use the “Switch Accounts” button next to your profile photo and username on the home screen. Once you have clicked on it, you can select the second account you want to switch to.
