The Indian division of Huawei Consumer Business has confirmed that the brand will launch the Mate X in India later this year. Huawei, however, did not unveil the exact launch date and pricing of the device for the Indian market. That being said, we expect the Mate X to launch in India by the end of the second quarter, and cost somewhere around INR 1,75,000. The Huawei Mate X could not only be the first foldable device to launch in India, but also the first 5G smartphone to launch in the country.
Speaking of 5G, Huawei is very keen and excited to bring 5G-enabled smartphones in India. Talking about the launch of the Mate X in India, and the brand’s 5G leadership, Wally Yang, the Director of Product Marketing at Huawei Consumer Business Group said “India is an important market for us and we have been consistently investing and expanding our footprint in the market. We are focused on delivering the user experiences that defines the future of smartphone in the smart era. The unveiling of the Huawei Mate X was the first key for consumers to open the door to 5G smart living. As the leader of the 5G era, we are bringing an inspired, intelligent experience to global consumers in every aspect of their lives. We want our customers here to witness Huawei’s global 5G technological strength, and experience this technology marvel.”
Huawei Mate X Specifications
The Huawei Mate X is one of the first foldable smartphones in the world. The device has an OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (2200 x 2480). When folded, you’ll get a 6.6-inch display, and when unfolded, you’ll get a massive 8-inch display. Therefore, the Mate X can be used as a smartphone and carried around easily in folded mode, and whenever you want, you can convert it into a tablet.
The smartphone features the Kirin 980 SoC, which is the flagship chipset from Huawei for 2018/2019. The Kirin 980 has four high-performance Cortex-A76 cores, four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores, and Mali-G76 MP10 GPU. The Mate X comes in only 8GB RAM and 512GB storage variant. The device runs on Android 9 Pie operating system with Huawei’s UI customization. The brand has also made some special customizations to the UI so that the device can act as a smartphone when folded, and as a tablet when unfolded.
The Mate X has a 40MP + 16MP + 8MP + ToF quad-camera on the back, which is the same setup from the Mate 20 Pro. The 40MP camera has a conventional field of view, the 16MP camera has an ultrawide field of view, and the 8MP camera has a telephoto field of view with a 3x optical zoom. The 3D ToF camera, as you might know, aids in portrait images by creating a 3D map of the surroundings by measuring the distance between itself and the objects. There is no front-facing camera. If you want to take a selfie, you can use the rear camera, and see yourself in the screen at the rear that you get when you fold the device.
The Mate X packs a massive 4500mAh battery. Moreover, it supports an astonishing 55W fast charging. The device has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, dual-SIM connectivity, and a USB Type-C port.
