Smartphone makers are finding new ways to go bezel-less without using a notch or a pop-up camera. Samsung revealed the Infinity-O display, which houses the front camera inside a cutout on the display. It is an interesting new concept, but it looks like Huawei might beat Samsung to it. Earlier this week, a leaked poster showed off an upcoming Huawei device called the Nova 4, which included a camera cutout on the front left corner. Now, some more images of the phone have leaked out, which show the device in real life.

Huawei Nova 4 Leaked Images

The Huawei Nova 4 is the successor to the Nova 3 (Review) smartphone, which is hardly four months old. We haven’t really heard many rumors about this phone, but it seems to be real. The phone was also spotted on a bus recently, where a user was seen using it. The user was probably testing the phone out in public, as it had a thick case around it to hide the design. We also learned that this device will have a headphone jack since the user was listening to music using wired earphones.

In the latest set of leaked images, you can see the phone being used with a much slimmer case. The camera cut-out can also be clearly seen. The phone appeared on stage during the birthday celebration of Chinese singer Jackson Yee. The singer is probably a brand ambassador for Huawei and he briefly teased the phone on stage. From the images below, you can clearly see the cut-out on the display where the front camera sits. The display is almost no bezels at all, except for a tiny chin at the bottom. This implementation does look better than a wide notch on top.

As you can see, only the front of the device was shown off. The back of the Nova 4 still remains a mystery. The report suggests that Huawei is using an LCD panel on the device and a laser is used to cut-out the hole on the display. Other specifications of the smartphone are not known yet. We expect the Nova 4 to be a powerful mid-range or high-end device. The predecessor, Nova 3, featured the Kirin 970 chipset and up to 6GB of RAM. It had dual cameras at the back, as well as the front. Therefore, the Nova 4 could also feature powerful internals. It is possible that Huawei could use its latest Kirin 980 chipset on the phone.

According to previous reports, Huawei could announce the new Nova 4 in December. It is expected to hold an event in China on December 4. We are not sure how accurate this information is, but we should find out soon enough. Huawei should make an official announcement very soon, if the reports are true.

Huawei vs Samsung

While Samsung was the first to showcase its new Infinity-O display tech on stage, Huawei might be the first to release a phone with the new technology. The Chinese smartphone maker is currently the second biggest brand in the world. The company has its targets set on the number one spot and it is doing everything it can. Its most recent flagship device, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, has already won many hearts. The Mate 20 Pro is probably the best Android smartphone of 2018.

With the release of the Huawei Nova 4, it could become the first smartphone to use an in-display camera cutout. Samsung’s smartphone with a similar display is said to be announced in January. The Korean giant will supposedly launch a mid-range device with this feature, before bringing it to the Galaxy S10.
