Huawei is reportedly set to launch two new smartphones in global markets, at an event in Vienna, Austria on October 21. The event will reportedly feature the Nova 8i and Nova 9, which will both be mid-range smartphones from the company. This will see the introduction of new Huawei phones in markets outside of China for the first time in a while, ever since the company has been resorted to using its own app store on its phones – which restricts general usability of Android smartphones outside of China.

Huawei Nova 9, Nova 8i: key specs

In terms of what is to be unveiled, both the smartphones have been showcased in international markets, which leaves us with plenty of clues around what both the Nova 8i and Nova 9 are supposed to be. Starting with the more premium Huawei Nova 9 that was introduced in China last month, the smartphone features a 6.57-inch, OLED display with full HD+ screen resolution, a centrally aligned drill hole slot for the front camera, and 120Hz refresh rate.

It runs on a 4G version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC, which is yet another reason why the use case of the phone may seem limited in European markets. It has 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and has an in-display fingerprint sensor as well. There is a 32MP front camera, and a quad rear camera setup featuring 50MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensing units. This is powered by a 4,300mAh battery with 66W fast charging.

In comparison, the Huawei Nova 8i features a full HD+, 6.67-inch LCD display with an in-display camera to the top-left. It is powered by the Snapdragon 662 SoC, along with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The front camera is a 16MP one, while to the rear, it has a 64MP quad rear camera along with an 8MP ultra-wide unit. The smartphone has the same battery specs as the Nova 9.

Expected prices

Reports suggest that the Huawei Nova 8i may cost around EUR 349 (approx. Rs 30,500), while the Nova 9 may cost EUR 549 (approx. Rs 48,000). All of this is, however, speculative, and more details will be revealed at the launch event, next week.
