In what has to be among the most awaited launches of 2019, Chinese smartphone maker Huawei earlier today, launched the successor to last years P20 and P20 Pro in the form of the brand new Huawei P30 Pro and the P30. Both the handsets feature several feature upgrades over last year’s models and offer flagship grade imaging and other capabilities. The P30 Pro, the more feature-packed of the two features a quad camera set up at the rear with improved optics and capabilities. The P30 Pro also managed to score a record-high DXOMark score beating all the other flagship handsets currently on sale globally. Let us now dive deep into specifications and features of both these devices.
Huawei P30 Pro: Specifications, features
As expected, the Huawei P30 Pro shares some of the design cues from last year’s P20 Pro. The phone is visibly larger than the P20 Pro and features a large 6.47-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The phone also features a small waterdrop notch at the top that houses a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. The notch is significantly smaller than the one seen on the P20 Pro and other flagship devices. The processor used on the device is Huawei’s tried and tested Kirin 980 SoC with the Mali-G76 GPU. The phone also gets a heat pipe and vapor chamber cooling system for thermal efficiency. The phone will be offered in 6GB and 8GB RAM options with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants. Like the Mate 20 Pro, the handset gets an NM card slot for memory expansion. The phone also happens to be IP68 water and dust resistant.
The rear camera setup on the P30 Pro consists of four cameras, a primary 40-megapixel, f/1.6 camera with OIS and an RYYB filter. The second camera is an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with f/3.4 aperture and support for OIS. The third camera is a 20-megapixel ultra-wide shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The fourth camera is a ToF sensor that is only used for depth information. The P30 Pro also boasts of up to 50X digital zoom and a Super Macro Mode.
The phone also gets a huge 4,200 mAh battery with support for 40W Super Charge support. The phone also adds support for wireless charging which was absent on the P20 Pro. Another addition is the in-display fingerprint scanner which was not present on the predecessor. Connectivity-wise, the P30 Pro features dual SIM capability, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Dual-band GPS; Bluetooth 5 + LE, NFC, and USB Type-C. Another interesting addition. Huawei has also added an IR blaster for added connectivity.
Huawei P30: Specifications, features
The Huawei P30, as you might have expected, is the less expensive version of the P30 Pro and comes with a smaller 6.1-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The handset is powered by the same Kirin 980 SoC that powers the P30 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro. The Huawei P30 comes in a single 6GB RAM +128GB version and like the P30 Pro, the phone gets an NM card slot for memory expansion.
The triple camera setup on the P30 consists of a 40-megapixel, f/1.7, 27mm primary camera, a secondary 16-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide camera and an 8-megapixel, f/2.4 telephoto camera with OIS. All three cameras boast of Leica optics. The handset also gets a dual LED dual-tone flash for low light situations. The front-facing camera is identical to the one on the P30 Pro – a 32-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. Being smaller than the P30 Pro, the p30 also gets a smaller 3650 mAh battery. The handset also supports 22.5W fast charging with the supplied charger.
Huawei P30 Pro, P30; Price in India, Availability
Huawei is yet to announce an official date for the launch of the Huawei P30 Pro in India. At this time, we are also unsure if the P30 would even make it to India. In fact, it is currently not even listed on Huawei’s India website. The P30 Pro, on the other hand, has already made an appearance on Amazon with a notify me page dedicated for it indicating an imminent India launch soon.
