Huawei today, on October 01 launched its latest Y-series Android smartphone, the Y9 (2019). As suggested by reputed leakster Evan Blass recently, the smartphone is expected to be launched in China as the Enjoy 9 Plus, succeeding the Enjoy 8 Plus from earlier this year. Successor to the Huawei Y9 (2018), the new Y9 (2019) comes with a few significant upgrades, with the most notable being dual cameras on both sides. The smartphone is targeted mainly at younger buyers looking for a new Android smartphone that offers great gaming, photography, and entertainment experiences.
Huawei Y9 (2018): Price, Availability
Huawei is yet to announce detailed pricing and availability details for the new Y9 (2019). For now, the company has only revealed that the smartphone will be going on sale starting mid-October in the Levant market. It will be available in Midnight Black, Blue Swarovski, and Aurora Purple colours.
Huawei Y9 (2019): Specifications, Features
The Huawei Y9 (2019) sports a 6.5-inch IPS LCD FullView display featuring Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2340 pixels), 3D curved design, and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Like other recent smartphones released by Huawei, the Y9 (2019) does feature a notch at the top, which allows it to achieve a high screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, Huawei’s latest Android smartphone runs on a 12nm Kirin 710 octa-core processor clocked at up to 2.2 GHz with an ARM Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. The smartphone comes in two memory configurations – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. Further expansion up to 400GB is supported, thanks to a dedicated microSD card slot.
In the camera department, Huawei Y9 (2019) sports a 16MP + 2MP dual-camera setup at the rear and a 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup on the front. The dual cameras on both sides of the Y9 (2019) comes with a number of AI-powered features. Connectivity-wise, the Y9 (2019) supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, and Dual 4G VoLTE.
For biometric authentication, Huawei Y9 (2019) comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is claimed to allow users to unlock the smartphone in just 0.3 seconds. Thanks to it being equipped with Huawei’s Fingerprint 4.0 identification technology, users will also be able to manage all the notifications with one key. Keeping the lights on is a large 4000mAh capacity battery with fast charging support. The smartphone measures 162.4 x 77.1 x 8.05mm and weighs 173 grams. In terms of software, the Y9 (2019) runs on the manufacturer’s EMUI 8.2 custom UI based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Huawei Y9 (2019): Expected Price in India
As mentioned earlier, Huawei has not announced detailed availability information just yet. At this point, it is unclear if the Y9 (2019) will be launched in the Indian market. That said, seeing how Huawei has brought pretty much all its new devices to the Indian market this year, there is a good chance that the Y9 (2019) will also be making its way to the Indian market sometime in the fourth quarter of the year. As for pricing, we expect the Huawei Y9 (2019) to be priced at somewhere around Rs.17,000 in the Indian market.
