It’s been barely a week since Huawei launched its new budget segment device the Y9 Prime here in India. In fact, the phone went on sale in India just yesterday. The new handset that struts a pop-up selfie camera and an attractive design has already started receiving software updates to improve its features. Huawei has confirmed that the Y9 Prime has started to receive an official update to EMUI 9.1 which will upgrade the file system on the device to the faster EROFS format. This new update will also enable support for Huawei’s GPU Turbo 3.0 feature that promises to enhance the overall gaming performance of the phone.

Let us take a look at the features that the new update brings to the table

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 EMUI 9.1 Update: What’s new?

The most important facet of this new update for the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is the adoption of the new EROFS file system that Huawei introduced with its flagship-class devices earlier this year. The EROFS file system will not only increase the overall performance and speed of the device, but it will also help the phone save precious disk space. Huawei also adds that EROFS can increase the random read speed on an average by 20% and up to 200% while also saving more than 2GB of system storage. EROFS is also better at reading data from the disk which will positively affect applications that involve music files, videos, and documents.

The second major feature that comes with this update is support for GPU Turbo 3.0. Designed for people who wish for an above-average gaming experience, GPU Turbo 3.0 claims to not only cut   CPU power by 10%, it also optimizes the overall performance of the device. Other benefits of GPU Turbo 3.0 include reduction of frame drops and overall improved battery life.
