Chinese OEM Transsion Holdings-owned brand Infinix has been teasing the India launch of the Infinix Hot 8 and the Infinix Hot 8 Pro for a while now. In a previous article here on Gear, we had talked about both these phones in relative detail. We already know most of the specifications of the Hot 9 since the device is already on sale in several markets outside of India. The Infinix Hot 9 Pro, however, is a relatively mysterious handset since it will make its official debut here in India. Until now, our assumption was that the Hot 9 Pro is simply an Infinix Hot 9 with better a better primary camera. However, a recent Geekbench result seems to indicate that the Hot 9 Pro will feature a slew of other upgrades as well.
We have come across a recent Geekbench listing that talks about a hitherto unknown smartphone from Infinix with the model number X683. This seems to be a close relative of the Infinix Hot 9. What the Geekbench listing also indicates is that this device will come powered by the MediaTek MT6769V/CU SoC, which is confirmed to be the new Helio G80 chipset that is used on the Realme 6i. The listing also indicates that the phone comes with 4GB of RAM and runs Android 10. For all practical purposes, this device appears to be the Infinix Hot 9 Pro.
Now, this processor is a significant upgrade over the MediaTek Helio A25 SoC that powers the Infinix Hot 9. We can, therefore, deduce that the Hot 9 Pro offers decent performance improvements over its less-endowed sibling. We already know that the Hot 9 Pro gets a better primary camera 48MP instead of the 13MP unit on the Hot 9. Also evident from the images on the Flipkart landing page is that the Hot 9 Pro gets a quad-camera array at the rear. At this time, we do not have details about the front-facing camera of the Hot 9 Pro save for the fact that it’s housed inside a punch hole.
Anyway, we should have more details of the Infinix Hot 9 and the Hot 9 Pro on May 29 when both these phones will be officially announced for India.
