Chrome for Android Allows for Listening to Webpages in Hindi and Bengali

  • Google has unveiled a new feature, which allows users to listen to web pages.
  • It is available in different languages, including Hindi and Bengali, and allows selecting different playback voice options.

Google is rolling out a new feature for Android Chrome users, which will read web pages out loud in different languages, including Hindi and Bengali. The feature was first spotted by the folks at 9to5Google on the Android version 125. So let’s explore the Google’s latest Feature in more detail:

Chrome’s New ‘Listen to this Page’ Feature

The latest Feature will appear below the translation option in the three-dot hamburger menu. Once a user taps on the option, it will start reading the webpage in a podcast-like format. Users can play, pause, rewind, fast-forward, or skip 10 seconds. There are also options to change the voice between Ruby (mid-pitch, warm), River (mid-pitch, bright), Field (low-pitch, bright), and Moss (low-pitch, peaceful).

Thankfully, the Feature is not limited to English only. It also supports other languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Unfortunately, the feature is not supported for all web pages. The support page on Google’s official website states that if a page isn’t available for playback, the ‘Listen to this page’ option won’t appear in the overflow menu.

How to Enable the ‘Listen to This Page’ Feature

Follow the steps mentioned below to enable the ‘Listen to this page’ feature on Google Chrome on Android smartphones,

  1. Open Chrome and head over to the web page of your choice.
  2. Tap on the hamburger menu from the top right corner.
  3. Select the ‘Listen to this page’ option.
  4. Select the playback speed and voice, and you will be good to go.

Note: Make sure your Chrome app is updated on your device. If you still don’t see this feature after updating, don’t worry. The company is gradually rolling it out to all users, so you’ll soon be able to listen to web pages on your smartphone.
