Google has unveiled its ‘Learn About’ AI-powered tool which offers textbook-style learning. It provides block-wise information and additional context based on the topic in a conversational manner. It’s currently an experimental tool available on a small scale. Here are the details.
Google’s Learn About AI Tool: Learning Made Easy
Unlike the Gemini chatbot, which is a general-purpose digital assistant, the Learn About tool is designed for educational purposes. It provides information in an interactive manner, similar to what we see in a textbook or an encyclopedia. This tool is powered by the LearnLM AI model, which is specifically designed for educational research.
When we compare Learn About with Gemini, the biggest difference is in the user interface. Gemini offers generic bulleted style data, picked as a summary from its AI models and the internet. ‘Learn About’ breaks down the information into smaller segments, and provides images related to each topic.
This data is from a mix of the LearnLM AI model and the web. However, it offers direct and clearer references to the source of the information, making it easier for users to see its origin. Learn About also uses Reddit forums, something that we don’t see from Gemini.
Learn About also offers direct links to YouTube videos, which are top-rated for the topic you searched for. Overall, this tool serves as a dashboard for all the relevant information you can find on the internet, compared to just reading a text-based summary in other AI tools.
The Learn About tool also has advanced search features. Users can upload an image and draw over it to highlight specific parts and ask the tool to explain only about that section. It can also scan for text using OCR. Here’s an example:
Learn About is an experimental tool and is only accessible in the United States and some other regions. It is not officially available in India. We were able to use the tool for a demo by using a VPN. Google has not revealed any plans for a public release.
