WhatsApp has rolled out a feature to summarise messages privately in chats, groups, and channels, with private processing at its core. Notably, the Private Processing ensures neither WhatsApp nor Meta has access to users’ private requests, including messages. Let’s check out what this new feature is and how it works.
WhatsApp will Let Users Check a Summary of Missed Chats
According to the popular WhatsApp watchdog WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned platform is working on a way to provide users with a summary of missed chats. The new feature is available to beta users on Android through the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.15.12 update available on the Play Store.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the new feature works with Meta AI. In the second image above, you can see that whenever a user receives a certain number of messages, they will see a new Summarise with Meta AI button in the chat. Clicking on this button will generate a concise summary of the received message so that the user can catch up on the conversation quickly.
This feature will be available across all chat forms, including private chats, groups, and channels on WhatsApp. It will benefit users who are part of multiple active groups and channels and help them stay up-to-date with the ongoing conversation. However, the feature will not work in chats where the Advanced Chat Privacy feature is enabled. For the uninitiated, the Advanced Chat Privacy prevents others from exporting chats, automatically downloading shared media, etc.
The report asserts that when the user decides to summarise the chat, a private request is generated and securely processed using the aforementioned Private Processing infrastructure. This means the user’s summarisation request will be processed entirely in a secure environment without storing or retaining the original messages.
The feature is currently in beta and available to select users. We can expect it to roll out to general users in the coming days.
