WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will let you share status updates directly on Instagram and Facebook. The app is also introducing a new Accounts Centre to facilitate signing into other Meta apps on the same device. Here are the details.

Share WhatsApp Status Updates on Instagram and Facebook

Meta has officially announced that WhatsApp will soon offer an option to directly share your Status Updates on Instagram and Facebook. When you upload a new status, you will see two additional options under the Who Can See My Status settings. With a single toggle, the status will be automatically uploaded to the other two Meta apps.

The process will require you to link your WhatsApp account with Facebook and Instagram. To make the process easier, Meta will also introduce a new Accounts Centre, which will serve as a dashboard of all your Meta accounts in a single place. It will allow you to easily sign in and manage your WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook accounts.

However, Meta also mentions that some part of your user data from WhatsApp will be used to serve more relevant and targeted ads. It will not include any private info from your conversations. The company has also assured you that your chats remain End-to-End Encrypted.

Meta says the new Accounts Centre and cross-linking of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook accounts will be optional. You will have to enrol manually to access both features. Meta further mentions the rollout of these features is expected in the upcoming few months but an exact timeline was not specified.

Meta appears to be unifying the experience of status updates and stories across all its apps. Recently, WhatsApp was spotted testing a new feature where users can add background music tracks to status updates, similar to Instagram. The messaging app has also been borrowing stickers, filters, and other effects from other Meta apps.
