WhatsApp has rolled out a new beta update for Android users with the 2.24.24.10 version number. The WhatsApp beta update introduces new ways of managing group notifications and brings clarity on how muting notifications from group chats works. Here are the details.
WhatsApp Group Chat Notifications
The WhatsApp beta for Android comes with more customisation for group notifications. The update allows users to choose between receiving notifications for All (Every Group Message) or Highlights. Once the Highlights option is enabled, it will send notifications for @mentions, replies, and other relevant messages.
The new options will be useful if you are a member of large WhatsApp groups. This will help you focus on your work and avoid distractions from the messages.
One thing to note here is that muting WhatsApp group notifications has always worked this way. The 2.24.24.10 beta update only described the existing functionality of the muting group notifications.
As of now, if you mute a WhatsApp group, you will still receive notifications for mentions and replies. However, you might assume that muting a WhatsApp group will not send any notifications.
WhatsApp will also set the notification option to Highlights only by default for groups with more members and vice versa for smaller groups. The new options are currently available to a limited number of beta testers who have installed the update.
