Apple has started rolling out the iOS 16.1 updates for all eligible iPhones globally. The latest update for iPhones brings a lot of new features such as iCloud Shared Photos library, third-party app support for live activities, Apple Fitness+ support on iPhone, and much more. Besides that, Apple has also rolled out the iPadOS 16.1 updates for iPads across the world. The Cupertino-based tech giant delayed the iPadOS latest build as beta users were reporting issues with the Stage Manager. Here’s everything you need to know about the iOS 16.1 update.

What’s New in the iOS 16.1 Update?

Apple iOS 16.1 update brings these features and bug fixes to eligible iPhones.

  • Live Activities for third party apps
  • Updated battery indicator
  • iCloud Shared Photo Library
  • Clean energy charging (US only)
  • Support for Apple Fitness+ on iPhone

One of the most hyped features of the latest iOS 16.1 update is the support for third party apps on live activities. Apple introduced the live activities feature in order to allow users to track real time alerts or updates. With the new update, Apple has opened up the live notification feature to third party developers with which they can make their app compatible. Once activated, you can see the live notifications on your lock screen or notification bar. iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max users are in for a treat as they will be able to check the live notifications directly from Dynamic Island.

Another major feature of iOS 16.1 is the iCloud Shared Photo library. It allows a user to share their pictures and videos stored in the iCloud to up to 5 people. The admin will be able to change the sharing permission for each user upon which they can add, edit, favourite, caption, and delete photos. The library filters will allow users to switch quickly between viewing the Shared Library to their Personal Library, or both libraries together.

The Apple Fitness+ app will now work on iPhones even if you don’t have an Apple Watch. Books app will now hide the reader controls as soon as you start reading. To shows its care for the environment, Apple has rolled out the Clean Energy Saving technique for iPhones. Because of this, iPhones will charge slowly when lower carbon emission electricity is available in order to reduce carbon footprint.

To update your iPhone, just head to Settings > General > Software Update. A new update will be available if you haven’t updated yet, download and install it. Your iPhone will restart and the new iOS version will be installed successfully.
