Apple reportedly witnessed significant growth in India in terms of sales this year. The company saw a growth of up to 70 per cent year-on-year in terms of its iPhone shipments in India in Q2 2023, according to a CyberMedia Research report (via). The company’s iPad lineup also saw an uptick in terms of shipments during the quarter.
Apple’s latest iPhone 14 series and the previous-generation iPhone 13 series models were key drivers behind the company’s year-on-year growth in India. The much older iPhone 11 series and the iPhone 12 series also contributed, helping Apple eat a larger pie of the premium smartphone segment in India.
“In Q2 2023, Apple witnessed robust growth in India. iPhone shipments surged by 70% year-on-year, with the iPhone 14 series and iPhone 13 series driving a significant portion of the shipments,” said Menka Kumari, Analyst – Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), at CMR.
The iPhone 13 series, notably, was the most popular series in India during the quarter. According to the report, the iPhone 13 series had the highest market share (52 per cent) among the iPhones sold in India. Factors such as online sales, and minor differences between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series could have helped the 2021 iPhone be a popular pick among consumers.
The iPhone 14 series is not far behind. According to the CMR report, 45 per cent of the total iPhones shipped during the quarter belonged to the iPhone 14 series. The iPhone 11 series, launched in 2019, contributed about 2 per cent to Apple’s quarterly growth in India. The 2020 iPhone 12 series added one per cent to Apple’s growth in India.

According to the report, the 9th-generation iPad series held a market share of 42 per cent, followed by last year’s iPad 10th-generation series, which had a market share of 22 per cent. The 2022 iPad Air and iPad Pro series had 18 per cent and 16 per cent market share, respectively.
The research company expects Apple to maintain a strong growth momentum throughout the second half of 2023. The iPhones might help Apple capture about 7 per cent of the total smartphone market share in India, whereas the iPad will have about 25 per cent of the entire pie.
The upcoming iPhone 15 series is also said to offer many upgrades over the outgoing models. All four iPhones are tipped to feature a new 48MP primary camera. The iPhone 15 series is also said to ditch the notch in favour of the pill-shaped and hole-punch cutouts for the Dynamic Island.
