- Apple is likely to launch four new iPhone models this year.
- The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely get significant upgrades compared to last year’s models.
- The non-Pro models are likely to get support for Apple’s Dynamic Island.

iPhone 15 series launch event could be hosted in September. Some rumours suggest that the iPhone 15 launch event will be hosted on September 12. Apple is yet to confirm the iPhone 15 launch date at the time of writing this. We are still a couple of months away from the launch of the next iPhone. As we inch closer, the rumour mill continues to churn out fresh details ahead of the upcoming Apple event. The latest information is about the iPhone 15 Pro series.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, who has maintained a fairly accurate iPhone leaks record, claims that the upcoming Pro models will have thinner bezels that are in a step towards Apple’s dream of a bezel-less iPhone. Gurman claims that Apple will use a new technology called low-injection pressure over-moulding, or “LIPO” for the displays of the Pro iPhone models.
iPhone 15, 15 Pro Upgrades: What to Expect?
Apple iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will reportedly trade in the notch for the Dynamic Island, which was introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro series last year. The 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, will go a step further and feature thinner bezels than the outgoing models. LIPO will apparently shrink the border size around the display to 1.5mm. in comparison, the border size around the display of the 14 Pro models is around 2.2mm. LIPO was featured first in the Apple Watch Series 7 and according to Gurman, the tech will later be introduced in the iPad line as well.
Besides slimmer bezels, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 and 15 Pro series will also get the biggest upgrade since the device added 5G capability three years ago. The 15 and 15 Plus models will feature the A16 Bionic SoC found in the iPhone 14 Pro models. The iPhone 15 Pro series will get a much snappier 3nm A17 Bionic SoC.
Apple is also said to replace the stainless-steel edges with titanium, which is likely to be stronger, lighter and more premium. The Pro models will continue to offer a frosted glass back but the edges connecting the side and front will be less sharp than before, according to Gurman.
The Pro models will also get a new Action button, which can customise to trigger various tasks. Some of these features include launching the camera, turning on the flashlight, opening features for accessibility or translating text, etc. Gurman also added that all four iPhones this year will move to a USB Type-C port instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning port.
Previous reports suggest the 15 and 15 Plus might get a new 48MP primary camera from the 14 Pro models. Also, the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will get a bigger 48MP sensor that will capture more light. The 15 Pro Max’s triple-camera setup is also said to feature a new 12MP periscope lens with support for up to 6x optical zoom. The smaller iPhone 15 Pro might feature a 12MP 3x optical zoom lens.
The upgrades might attract a price bump compared to last year’s models. According to a recent report, the 15 Pro models will be more expensive compared to the 14 Pro models. The 15 Pro might be launched for $1099 (roughly Rs 90,100), whereas the 15 Pro Max will have a starting price of $1299 (roughly Rs 1,06,500). The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will likely be launched at a starting price of $799 (roughly Rs 65,500) and $899 (roughly Rs 73,700), respectively.
