- iPhone 16 series is more than a year away from its launch.
- A new leak has now revealed some design details of the iPhone 16 series.
- The iPhone 16 series might sport a dual-camera setup

iPhone 16 series rumours have started to surface online. Apple is currently gearing up for the launch of the iPhone 15 series but looks like the rumour mill cannot wait to spill some beans regarding the iPhone 16 series. There have been leaks about the iPhone 16 Pro models getting some key upgrades next year. Apple is rumoured to launch its 2024 Pro models with a bigger display than the iPhone 15 series. Meanwhile, a new leak has now revealed some design details of the iPhone 16.
The non-Pro models are likely to continue featuring a dual-camera setup on the back even next year. While Apple is rumoured to not make any major changes in the form factor and dimensions of next year’s iPhone, the company might go back to the iPhone 12 when it comes to the design of the camera module.
According to a new leak by tipster Unknownz21, the iPhone 16 will have a vertical camera layout as opposed to a diagonal on iPhone 15. Apple launched the iPhone 12 with two camera sensors placed one below the other, next to which is the LED flash module. The company switched to a diagonal camera sensor layout for the non-Pro models in the iPhone 13 series. The camera module design for the non-Pro models has remained the same since then and Apple is likely to follow the same for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.
The tipster stated that the next year’s iPhone 16 series will feature a vertical sensor layout instead of a diagonal, which will make it “ instantly recognisable as the latest model.” At the moment, it is unknown if the change in layout is only for aesthetic differentiation or if it is being done due to changes in internal hardware that require the shift. At the iPhone 13 launch, Apple stated that a redesigned rear camera layout with diagonally arranged lenses enables the advanced dual-camera system, which suggested that the size/ number of the internal components for the camera led to the change in the alignment.

The tipster added that an iPhone 12-style design is currently being tested, though there is another design as well with the “same layout.” Obviously, if the vanilla model gets the design change, its Plus-sized sibling will also get the updates.
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are also tipped to feature the Dynamic Island, which will be featured in the 15 series as well. Apple introduced its pill-shaped notch in the iPhone 14 Pro models last year, which enabled a feature called Dynamic Island that expands and contracts when a notification pops up. The non-Pro models are likely to get the pill-shaped notch design on the display this year. Also, another major change is the introduction of the USB Type-C port this year. A recent leak claimed that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are getting a new 48MP sensor for the iPhone 14 Pro.
The non-Pro models will continue to feature a 60Hz display, according to a leaked pipeline which revealed the roadmap for iPhones launching up until 2027. These are early rumours and are subject to changes before the official launch next year.
