The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued an advisory for all Android smartphone users. IRCTC has asked users not to install a file named irctcconnect.apk. The organisation claims that downloading file will result in the installation of malware on the phone that can steal your data.
The malicious file is being distributed via Telegram, WhatsApp and other social media channels. Installing the irctcconnect.apk file may steal your data including personal information such as UPI details, banking information, credentials, etc. The organisation has asked its users on a serious note not to install any such files.
The malicious app is hosting a phishing website with the URL https://irctc.creditmobile.site where everything seems to be as same as IRCTC but if you enter any details, scammers will get to know your credentials and they can misuse it.
IRCTC says that users should download the official IRCTC app for train ticket booking only via Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

“It has been reported that a malicious Android application (irctcconnect.apk) hosted on a phishing website (https://irctc.creditmobile.site) is being circulated over instant messaging platforms e.g. WhatsApp, Telegram, etc. This android app (APK file) is malicious and infects the mobile device. These fraudsters are sending phishing links at mass level and insisting users to download this android application, impersonating IRCTC officials to trick victims into revealing their sensitive net banking credentials like UPI details, credit/debit card information etc.
In view of this, you are advised that please do not install this application and keep yourself safe from such fraudsters. Always download IRCTC’s authorized ‘IRCTC Rail Connect’ mobile app from Google Play Store or Apple Store.
Please note that IRCTC does not call its users/customers for their PIN, OTP, Password, Credit/Debit Card Details, Net Banking password or UPI details.”
