In the upload speed department, Idea aces with 5.9 Mbps for the month of October, while Vodafone registers 4.8 Mbps.

Reliance Jio CEO Mukesh Ambani

Yesterday, on November 14, we reported Jio GigaFiber acing the Netflix ISP Speed Index test and today the wireless network division of Reliance Industries Limited is titled as the fastest operator of the 4G network. As per the reports released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the average peak download speed of Reliance Jio for the month of October is 22.3 Mbps. The same report further reveals that Idea registers the highest upload speed of 5.9 Mbps during the month. To recall, Idea has always delivered the best upload speeds compared to other telecom operators.

Another Report Rates Airtel as the Fastest

An independent study by OpenSignal, which came out last week, rated Bharti Airtel as the number one telecom operator in terms of download speed. The data used for the study was from the month of June 2018 to August 2018. However, TRAI reports clearly state Reliance Jio was acing the segment in the above mentioned duration as well, while Idea Cellular continued to maintain the lead in the upload speed department. According to TRAI, Bharti Airtel registered a download speed of 9.8 Mbps in the month of October, which is less than half of what Jio delivered.

Reliance Jio is known for its unlimited 4G data plans at affordable prices. The aggressive pricing of the 4G plans has made it the third largest telecom operator in the country after Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel. While the telco has an overwhelming followers, there have always been reports of call drops and network issues. The new TRAI reports have cleared that internet speed would not be an issue, however, the telco still has to work on the voice calling part. With Jio GigaFiber on its way to the full commercial launch, this news would keep the subscribers motivated. The Mukesh-Ambani owned Jio subsidiary is expecting its wireless subscribers to take up its broadband services as well. The preview offer for Jio GigaFiber is very lucrative and the company received an overwhelming response during the registration process.

Idea Continues to Deliver the Best 4G Upload Speed

Although, Vodafone and Idea have successfully completed the merger, the telcos are still operating as separate entities and the TRAI has posted their results on MySpeed Portal separately. In the upload speed department, Idea aces with 5.9 Mbps for the month of October, while Vodafone registers 4.8 Mbps. The download speed of Vodafone stands at 6.6 Mbps, slightly better than 6.4 Mbps download speed of Idea. Bharti Airtel registers an upload speed of 3.8 Mbps in October, while Jio manages to hit 5.1 Mbps.

Overall, Reliance Jio has the best download speed and is only a hair behind Idea Cellular in terms of the upload speed. Within a period of two years, Reliance Jio has managed to deliver the best 4G services at attractive prices in India and now it’s heading fast to the 5G services. At the IMC 2018, the company showcased the use cases of 5G technology in the development of smart offices, schools, and hospitals. The company also set several experience zones for a live demonstration.

According to reports, Reliance Jio has already developed 5G-prepared LTE network and the company is expected to launch its 5G based services within the next 6 months of the spectrum allocation. The company is aggressively extending its fiber-optic network, which would act as the foundation to the 5G services. There is still time for the futuristic 5G-based services, for now, Jio is well on its way to establishing dominance in the telecom industry.
