Jio Smartphone to Launch Before Diwali
ET report citing sources familiar with the matter claimed that Reliance Jio might launch the affordable smartphone in India before Diwali. As per the sources the COVID-19 situation seems to be improved by that time and it would be the best time to launch the device.

The smartphone was said to run JioOS, which is speculated to be a custom fork of Android suited for budget devices and built to support the Jio ecosystem. According to the latest report the smartphone is already tested at the facilities of UTL Neolyncs, Dixon Technologies, Wingtech Mobiles, and Flextronics Technologies. Further, the report also suggested that the 4G variant of the smartphone will be priced under USD 50 which is approximately Rs 4,000 in INR. The sources also confirmed that Jio will start the pre-bookings in the upcoming months.
“Google’s job was to optimize the software, Chinese ODM (original design manufacturer) Wingtech is likely to design the hardware, while other vendors will do the assembling,” ET report quoted a top executive said. “Beginning of trials suggests that the phone may be up for launch in the fourth quarter (through December), if not earlier.”
