
Reliance Jio is among the top telecom operators in India. Aside from its nationwide telecom services, the company has offered feature phones called JioPhone in India. Now, Reliance could foray into a new category. According to XDA Developers, Reliance will soon launch a new laptop in India. The Jio laptop will be called JioBook and priced affordably. The report states that the JioBook will run on JioOS based on Android instead of Windows 10. The laptop will draw power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, which is an 11nm chipset. Reliance Jio will put its foot in a new category after the telecom and feature phone industry. The company will launch a new low-cost laptop very soon in India. The JioBook will be Reliance Jio’s first laptop and will run on JioOS out of the box.
Details about the entry-level Reliance Jio laptop were shared by XDA Developers. The report suggests that the laptop will offer entry-level specifications. It will get powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC under the hood. The 11nm octa-core chipset for mobile phones was launched in 2019. It comes with a 4G LTE modem. The laptop will run on Jio’s custom JioOS based on Android 10.
Documents further reveal that Jio is partnering with China-based Bluebank Communication Technology. The company creates mobile devices and develops software for third-parties. The JioBook has been in development since early September of 2020 and is expected to launch in H1 2021. The report also reveals the design of the budget notebook. At the EVT stage, the JioBook had unfinalised hardware, including a recycled keyboard that contained a Windows key. The final product is likely to have a replaced key that fits the product and the software.
The laptop will have a 1366×768 resolution display. The screen size is currently unknown. Bluebank has tested several iterations of the laptop, including a model with 2GB of LPDDR4X RAM paired with 32GB of eMMC storage and later a model with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage.
