AMD has delayed the launch of its latest Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs. The company has cited some quality issues in the early batches of retail units. AMD announced the Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs last month, which were supposed to hit the retail markets by July 31. But AMD has pushed the timeline by two weeks and mentioned that its new processors will hit the shelves by mid-August. Here are the details.
Why is the Ryzen 9000 Series Delayed?
AMD’s Senior Vice President Jack Huynh posted on his official X(formerly Twitter) handle announcing a slight delay in the retail availability of the latest Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs. He mentioned that the early batch of processors did not meet AMD’s full-quality expectations. The chipmaker has identified the problem and is in the process of rectifying it.
We appreciate the excitement around Ryzen 9000 series processors. During final checks, we found the initial production units that were shipped to our channel partners did not meet our full quality expectations. Out of an abundance of caution and to maintain the highest quality…

As per revised timelines, the Ryzen 7 9700X and the Ryzen 5 9600X processors will now be available on August 8. The Ryzen 9 9950X and the Ryzen 9 9900X will be available starting August 15.
AMD has also assured consumers that they will not face any issues with the new Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs once made available in August.
Processor | New Launch Date |
Ryzen 7 9700X |

Ryzen 5 9600X | |

The two-week delay primarily affects the availability of the processors in American and European markets. Generally, new CPUs take a few weeks to arrive in India after the international launch. We can now expect the Ryzen 9000 Series processors to be available in India by early September. AMD has not released an official launch timeline for the Indian market.
AMD has not disclosed the exact problems that led to the delay in the launch of the Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs. The company has assured that the issues are not related to the actual manufacturing of the chips. However, the details are not yet known.
To recall, AMD announced four new processors in its Ryzen 9000 Series in June 2024. The new CPUs are based on the latest Zen 5 architecture and use the AM5 socket. Here’s a quick glance at the specifications of AMD’s latest processors:
Processor | Cores/Threads | Base Clock | Boost Clock | L2 cache | L3 cache | TDP |
Ryzen 9 9950X | 16C / 32T | 4.3GHz | 5.7GHz | 16MB | 64MB | 170W |
Ryzen 9 9900X | 12C / 24T | 4.4GHz | 5.6GHz | 12MB | 64MB | 120W |
Ryzen 7 9700X | 8C / 16T | 3.8GHz | 5.5GHz | 8MB | 32MB | 65W |
Ryzen 5 9600X | 6C / 12T | 3.9GHz | 5.4GHz | 6MB | 32MB | 65W |
During the announcement, AMD also highlighted that the Ryzen 9 9950X will be the fastest consumer-grade CPU in the market.
