Sandisk has launched the WD Black SN8100 NVMe SSD in India based on PCIe Gen 5.0. This is one of the fastest SSDs on the market as of now, supporting claimed speeds of up to 14,900 MBps. It also offers improved power efficiency compared to PCIe Gen 4.0 and is designed to handle high-volume data tasks, such as AI applications and larger modern games. This performance is complemented by improved power efficiency, with the drive sipping just 7 watts, less than the WD Black SN850X. There’s also another variant of the SN8100 which comes with a heatsink, similar to what we’ve seen on the SN850X.

The price in India for the WD Black SN8100 starts at Rs 17,499.

Sandisk WD Black SN8100: Specs and Features

The Sandisk WD Black SN8100 is an M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 5.0 SSD, featuring BiC58 3D CBA NAND technology. It supports sequential read speeds of up to 14,900 MBps, and write speeds of over 14,000 MBps. The SSD is capable of 2,300,000 IOPS of random performance, which denotes its ability of processing a mix of smaller and bigger chunks of data simultaneously. By these metrics, the SN81000 is the fastest consumer-grade SSD in the world.

Since this is based on PCIe Gen 5.0, the new SSD also offers 100% better power efficiency compared to PCIe Gen 4.0. The average power requirement of this SSD is just 7W, which is extremely helpful while running multiple SSDs in a storage server.

The SN8100 SSD is rated for 2,400 TBW endurance. This represents the number of cycles of data being written on the storage units. The company says that this SSD is ideal for AI operations, large games, content creators, and high-performance users who demand peak performance and high-reliability storage.

The SSD is also available with a low-profile heatsink made from anodized aluminium. The heatsink variant has RGB lights, but does not have any fans, ensuring minimal power requirement.

Sandisk is offering a 5-year warranty on its WD Black SN8100 SSD.
