Last week, a new Lenovo branded smartphone was spotted on Chinese certification site TENAA with a triple-rear camera setup. The phone carried the model number L78071 and the listing revealed several specifications as well. However, we had no idea which phone was this. Now, the company has confirmed that this new phone with triple-cameras will be a part of the Z5 series. It will be known as the Lenovo Z5s. However, no details can be found regarding its launch.
Lenovo Z5s with Triple-Camera Confirmed
The China-based manufacturer has launched couple of smartphones recently, including the flagship Z5 Pro. Lenovo has never had a smartphone with more than two rear cameras. The Z5s would be the first to feature a triple-rear camera setup. The TENAA images showed the vertically placed triple-camera setup, which looked very similar to the setup found on the Huawei P20 Pro.
A user on Weibo noticed the similarity and joked if this Lenovo phone would also be called the P20 Pro. To this, Chang Chen, Vice President of Lenovo Mobile Business Group replied, “simply call it Lenovo Z5s, not Lenovo P20 Pro”. Now that is pretty much a solid confirmation from Lenovo itself. We are not sure when the company plans on launching this phone. Whenever it does, we would definitely like to find out how it fares against the competition. There are plenty of phones available in the market that feature a triple-rear camera setup. We have the brand new Mate 20 Pro from Huawei, the LG V40 ThinQ and the Samsung Galaxy A7. All of these phones feature a triple cameras at the back, but so far, the Mate 20 Pro has come out on top.
The Lenovo Z5s is said to feature a 6.3-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 8150 chipset, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and 3210mAh battery.
The Need for Multi-Camera Setups
The Huawei P20 Pro was the first smartphone to include three camera on the back. The phone was released in 2017 and is still considered to be one of the best camera phones around. Now, in 2018, manufacturers have started adding more cameras on smartphones. For example, Samsung even released a phone with 4 rear cameras, called the Galaxy A9. Reports have suggested that one of the variants of the upcoming Galaxy S10 will feature 6 cameras in total. If that sounds like a lot to you, then you should definitely read about the Nokia 9 PureView, which is said to feature 5 cameras just at the back.
Multi-camera setups do help in providing different modes to shoot. A user can use either of the cameras for different scenes. For example, to shoot a portrait photo, you can use the telephoto lens. If you want to shoot a landscape shot, you can use the wide-angle sensor. And if you want low-light photos, use the largest sensor available. As you can see, smartphones with multiple rear cameras, can provide more choice for the user. A dedicated zoom lens will also provide better quality pictures when zooming in on a subject/object. The Mate 20 Pro and the LG V40 have some of the best rear cameras.
And then there is Google, who is still using a single rear camera on their flagship Pixel 3. Despite this, the Pixel 3 camera can take some amazing photos and is one of the best camera phones in the market.
